Puremagnetik has recently released Pastfabric, a new micro-splicing plugin for PC & Mac. Pastfabric operates in real-time with whatever you put into its buffer. It was inspired by granular microsound, and experimental tape splicing practices. Pastfabric takes cues from both the analog and digital realms to imbue your audio with everything from nostalgic glitch to shimmering ambiences
Beside this, the company has released two free experimental plugins: Expanse a texture generator and Driftmaker an experimental delay plugin
Overview.
Pastfabric records incoming audio in real-time to a 10s buffer. The Past control sets the scanning length. It then pulls out splices – somewhat randomly – based on the selected “past factor”. Motion controls how often the splicer pulls new content out. With Duration and Length, each splice can undergo time compression/expansion, chopping, glitching or sustaining into blurred ambience.
Splices can be routed through space diffusion and analog aging effects. Haze is a blurring effect that diffuses the spatial source of the slices. Fabric adds analog aging to the splices, making them wow and flutter, click, pop, and saturate. Between micro-memory splicing and effects, Pastfabric can turn a very simple sound input into complex repeating patterns, modulating, beautiful ambiences and much more.

Expanse & Driftmaker – Free Plugins
Expanse – Texture Generator: Inspired by Larum’s Into a Bright Land, Expanse is a noise and drone generator that can be spectrally blurred, pitched, and filtered. It is a simple yet versatile tool that can produce sweeping backdrops, resonating low drones, and many other textural canvases.
Driftmaker – Delay Disintegration Device: It’s a delay disintegration device that parses incoming audio, recalls certain parts and adds analog deterioration to the signal. It was designed to encapsulate the character of BlankFor.ms’s debut on Puremagnetik. All presets were developed by BlankFor.ms.
Puremagnetik Micro-Memory Splicer is available now as part of the Spark subscription for $8 USD per month. After one month it will available for $20 USD. Expanse & Driftmaker are available for free from the website.
