Superbooth 24: Groove Synthesis 3rd Wave, the mighty multi-timbral wavetable Synthesizer, now supports sampling.
The Superbooth starts this Thursday and I can already tease you so much: there will be a firework again with the new release. Big and small things. Stay tuned. Groove Synthesis, the makers of the 3rd Wave Synthesizer also have something new at Superbooth 24.
They will have no new hardware but a big firmware update for the 3rd Wave that adds sampling.
Groove Synthesis 3rd Wave Sampler
The news has not yet been announced by Groove Synthesis, but YouTube Miles Away has published a video with an exclusive first look at the new firmware.
As a reminder, the 3rd Wave is the spiritual successor of the PPG Wave Synthesizer. It has a 4-part multi-timbral hybrid engine and features 24 voices, digital oscillators, and analog filters.
According to Miles Away, the new Groove Synthesis 3rd Wave firmware will turn the synth into a sampler. This is a major new feature that massively expands the synth’s sound spectrum. To the facts!
It only supports mono samples in 16-bit 48kHz quality. The sampling time is limited to 30 seconds maximum. So, not much, but there is multi-sample support, which is great. The new sample page features classic features, including tuning, loop, cross-fade, play direction, and more.
I think mangling the samples with the built-in analog filters will be very exciting.
First Impression
This is a super exciting update. Sampler functionality is a great addition to 3rd Wave, especially with analog filters. I like that the Groove Synthesis team made this user-requested feature possible. I will expand the article when all the details are available.
Groove Synthesis 3rd Wave firmware will be available soon. The synth is available now for $4995 USD. Groove Synthesis will have a booth (0246) at Superbooth 24 this week.

The UI is perfect, the sound is breathtaking, 24 voices and Groove Synthesis improves it regularly. Adding multisampling is the final stage of sound design. The 3rd Wave is becoming the most amazing synth of the decade.
It’s the gift that keeps on giving! I LOVE my 3rd Wave.
