For Superbooth 20 Home Edition, Finegear introduced the Dust Collector, a vintage-inspired multi-fx processor that is analog, patchable, and live playable.
Finegear from France does not sell expensive dust to its customers, but the name should indicate the vintage 1970s inspired character of this new effect unit. To achieve this, they build in two tape saturators, a spring reverb, delay, and a phaser. To get more depth and an experimental character out of the box, they go one step further.
The developers have designed the Dust Collector as a patchable unit. This means that in addition to its classic parameters, each effect processor also has inputs that can be modulated. For this, the unit includes two built-in LFOs that can be used to modulate any effect or even the LFOs themselves. With the last one, you can get very crazy results
The concept is based on the past and should honor but also the history of experimental music by shaking some of the dust that settled on the 1970s. This can also be seen in the many connection options, which can be used to emphasize the wild character of the device.
For example, you can insert an effect in the delay’s feedback loop, add modulation to pretty every effect, or interact with three springs inside the devices. Yes, you can remove the cover and touch them. If this is not enough, you can even go further and mod features directly on the PCB.
With the Dust Collector, you’ll uncover unique sounds and new uses for effects you thought you knew: gritty, springy, phased magic dust that sticks to the tape and transforms your sound into a living, kicking and breathing organism – not necessarily pretty, but alive & authentic.
The Interface Features
- 2 CV LFOs (sine, triangle & square waveforms, LFO speed CV input, speed & CV depth controls, 2 outputs, 1 inverted output)
- 2 tape saturations (saturation type switch, volume knob, bypass switch, moddable diode config for different sound & behaviors
- spring reverb (three springs with a removable cover, VCA in/out with CV input jacks and depth controls
- delay (time parameter CV, feedback knob, madness momentary switch for those momentary lapses of reason with infinite feedback)
- phaser (modulation using either or both of the LFOs, a knob, and a CV input and an ambient light)
- bi-color LEDs to help you visualize modulations.
That not all. The unit also includes a possibility to remove the side panel of the phaser. Here, you can modulate the phaser with a custom light source. With this, you can manipulate the character and the movement of the phaser.
A first look, a super interesting analog multi-effect box with many functions that invite you to wild experimentations. Here is a first look video from SB20 HE.
Finegear The Dust Collector is available now for pre-order for 480€ and shipping starts not before July 2020.
