Flanger is a modulation effect widely used in music production. It can be used very subtly to add movement to sounds or to explore your wildest psychedelic sound worlds.
With Poly Flanger, Minimal Audio presents a new flanger plugin that breaks new ground and offers approaches not found in every bread-and-butter flanger.
Minimal Audio Poly Flanger
Poly Flanger is not your classic flanger plugin for macOS and Windows. Minimal Audio has integrated a multi-voice flanger engine into Poly Flanger, allowing eight independent flanger voices to be stacked.
Each voice adds depth and dimension, letting you go from subtle thickening to full harmonic weight. The special feature is how these can interact. Blend them together, spread them apart, and find the sweet spot that works for your track.
Pitch, stereo width, span, damping, and feedback give you full control over the flanging engine. There are various flanger modes available.
You can switch between Classic (full harmonics), Hollow (odd harmonics with saturation), and Vapor (diffused, reverb-like smearing) for distinct tonal flavors.
On the lower right side, you can set the scale, and the effects snap to the closest in-key note. So it moves with your music, not against it.
Users can also fine-tune the harmonic voicing with 12 voicing modes that further refine what scale degrees each voice can play. Available scales are: 7ths, sus chords, power chords, pentatonic scales, and more.
Further, you can add flexible stereo modulation to drive motion across the effect. You can work with multiple LFO shapes and randomization to create stereo movement. The latter can be quantized to rhythm and scales as well, so it’s always musical.
Poly Flanger ships with 80 presets that showcases the wide range of use cases. It generates your classic sweeps but also more innoative, advanced flanging effects like shimmering arpeggiation, rich chord sweeps, and more.
First Impression
Every DAW now has a classic flanger. So we don’t have need more of these. It’s logical and welcome that flanging is being further developed and taken into new territory. This new generation flanger can be experienced in the Poly Flanger plugin.
Minimal Audio Poly Flanger is available now at an introductory price of $29, down from $49. It runs as a VST3, AU, and AAX plugin on macOS (native Apple Silicon + Intel) and Windows.
