GSDSP Quantum Delay Lite is a new free delay plugin for macOS/Windows/iOS that combines vintage character with heavy modulation.

In 2023, the Austrian developer GSDSP released the Quantum Delay, a creative delay plugin with vintage-inspired algorithms that can be spiced up with an impressive amount of modulation.

With the Lite version of Quantum Delay, GSDSP now offers a lovely 100% free version with many of the full version’s features.

GSDSP Quantum Delay Lite

Quantum Delay Lite is a new free stereo delay/echo plugin for macOS, Windows, and iOS based on the full version of Quantum Delay. According to Gustav from GSDSP, Quantum Delay Lite offers no differences in the algorithms.

It comes with the same unique modes: a retro-inspired tape and a super-clean fade. Whether vintage or modern, both areas are covered here.

However, the switch that toggles between stereo and dual mono is only available in the Pro version. The same applies to the input routing option, which gives you stereo, left, or right-only. This is also missing in the Lite version.

You can tweak the delay time in ms (turplets) freely, or use the BPM sync function to sync the time to your DAW clock. With the fine control, you can dial in micro-timings or modulate the delay times. Feedback is also onboard.

The lovely crossfeed function, which allows you to generate classic ping-pong delay effects, is available only in the Pro version. The over-feedback option lets you create infinite reverb-like echoes.

Then the feedback path is also less versatile in the Lite version. It only hosts a lowpass filter while the Pro gives you highpass and bandpass filter types on top. A low-pass filter is certainly welcome for quickly tweaking the character.

Also not part of the feature set are the phase invert option and the pan and width parameters for the processor.

Modulation

A highlight of the GSDSP Quantum Delay (Pro) is its powerful modulation engine, and I have good news: it’s also part of the Lite version to the same extent.

The built-in modulation allows you to modulate pretty much everything using built-in LFOs, random and chaos generators (also in 2D), envelope followers, and macros.

Using this, demonstrate the versatility of the GSDP Quantum Delay Lite. It’s perfect for wild, unpredictable delays and sound effects.

Important: all Lite presets can be imported into the full version, so you can pick up exactly where you left off.

First Impression

Quantum Delay is a fantastic delay plugin that stands out primarily for its modulation capabilities. The Lite version lets everyone try out this concept, which I think is a welcome idea from the developer. And if you need more features, you can always get the Pro version.

GSDSP Quantum Delay Lite is available now as a free download on the official website and on the Apple App Store. It runs as a VST3, AU, and AAX plugin on macOS (native Apple Silicon + Intel) and Windows.

The iOS/iPadOS versions run as an AUv3 plugin on iPhone and iPad. The Pro version is available for 49€ (desktop) and $14,99 (iOS).
