Alexander Zolotov has released Low Poly Synth, a new ambient sound generator for iOS and macOS that generates billions of atmospheric sounds.

An iPad or iPhone is not only a powerful musical instrument or an entire music production system, but also a fantastic sound source for hardware devices. If you have a sampler device that can record via USB-C, such as an OP-1 Field or an Akai MPC Live 3, you can access countless new sounds here.

Alexander Zolotov has a fascinating range of generative apps well-suited for this purpose. With just a few clicks, you can create an inspiring sound using synthesis. Following Relic Waves, Relic Flow, and Fractal Bits, Low Poly Synth is now the fourth app in the series.

The success story continues. This is already the fourth app with the same generative concept. This time, the focus is on melodic, atmospheric sounds.

According to Alexander Zolotov, the app is built on modified synthesis algorithms from his previous apps Fractal Bits, Relic Waves, and Relic Flow. Additionally, it has a pure-tone generation code.

The sound space is divided into 4294967296 presets, each corresponding to 8 sample textures. The volume of an individual sample can be adjusted in the top panel or via MIDI.

Each note triggers all eight samples simultaneously; together, they form a complex harmonic pattern that rarely repeats over time because of the varying lengths of the looped fragments.

Generate Billions Of Sounds

Alexander Zolotov promises that you can generate billions of new melodic ambient sounds with it, and the Low Poly Synth generative engine is super easy to use.

Search for new sounds with three buttons: next random set, edit code, and previous set. Each set of 8 sounds corresponds to an 8-character code (you can save/copy/paste it as plain text). You can adapt or randomize the code yourself to generate new sound sets.

If a sound isn’t perfect, you can adjust it with 20 parameters directly through the app interface or via MIDI. You can modify the volume, stereo width, reverb, echo, and an attack and release envelope.

You can play the sound on-screen with an adjustable octave range and scale, using a PC keyboard or a MIDI keyboard. There is also the handy lock button, which freezes individual samples that do not change during the search for a new set.

In addition to playing sounds directly, you can export them for use elsewhere using the built-in audio recorder with export capabilities. WiFi import and export of sounds is also possible.

Not to forget: Low Poly Synth is also an AUv3 plugin, so that you can use it as a traditional Synthesizer/virtual instrument plugin on iOS and macOS in multiple instances.

First Impression

I’ve been a big fan of Alexander’s generative apps since his first, Fractal Bits, in 2019. It’s not an app I use every day, but it’s one I like to open when I want to fill my sampler with fresh, inspiring sounds that have a special touch with just a few clicks.

I’ll definitely add it to my arsenal as I really like what I hear from the first demo.

Low Poly Synth by Alexander Zolotov is available now for $1,99 on the Apple App Store. It runs as a standalone and AUv3 plugin on iOS (iPhone/iPad) and macOS (native Apple Silicon only).
