Has Behringer canceled the long-awaited VCS 3 and Pro-16 projects? New information from Sweetwater suggests this!

Behringer has announced and released many synthesizers in recent years. However, many are still eagerly awaiting the clones of the legendary VCS 3 and Prophet-5 with 16 voices, aka Pro-16.

There is news, and this seems to dampen the anticipation.

Behringer VCS 3 & Pro-16 Canceled?

For some time now, it’s been possible to pre-order the Behringer VCS-3 and Pro-16 from Sweetwater by phone or in-store.

Now, unconfirmed information and screenshots are circulating in the official Behringer Synthesizer Facebook group that both projects may have been canceled.

According to these, Sweetwater has canceled the pre-orders for both synths and reports that Behringer let them know that the VCS-3 and Pro-16 aren’t happening.

At this point, I can neither confirm nor deny this information. The last time Behringer reported on the Prophet-5 project was at NAMM 2025, and the VCS 3 in 2023, when the device entered beta. However, that was the last update for the latter.

Pure Speculation

As VCS 3 experts know, cloning this synth is a pervasive project. It’s not the synth voice, but the pin matrix, and ensuring everything harmonizes with the analog voice.

This could be too much for Behringer (developing a custom matrix…) and far exceed the costs they might want to invest in the project.

Other scenario: maybe they won’t be able to reduce the costs enough to make the VCS 3 clone as affordable as hoped. Of course, other problems may have arisen, or other decisions may have led to the cancellation of the projects. We don’t know it yet.

But so far, this is all speculation and has to be confirmed or denied by Behringer.
