Caelum Audio Dynabit is a new creative bitcrusher effect plugin with modulation for macOS, Windows, and iOS (AUv3).
Usually, you want to record electronic music with as little noise and as high quality as possible. Unless you introduce distortion into the sounds, this can be done with overdrive, saturation, distortion, wavefolder, or even dirtier with a bitcrusher.
Caelum Audio, a development company offering iOS versions of its plugins, has now released an interesting bitcrusher plugin called Dyabit.
Caelum Audio Dynabit
Dynabit is a new creative bitcrusher effect plugin packed with five parameter sections.
It starts with a multimode filter section with selectable lowpass, bandpass, and highpass modes. Classic cutoff and resonance parameters allow for control.
Next is a sample rate reducer with rates down to 10Hz, a unique Nyquist filter to reduce unwanted sampling errors, and a shaper to smooth the results.
The third section of Caelum Audio Dynabit then hosts a bit crusher to reduce signals to a single bit and a range booster to exploit all available bits. It also hosts an envelope to manage the chaos and shape the incoming signal’s original dynamics.
Right next to this is a waveform display that gives you real-time visualization. That’s not all. You can manipulate your tracks into digital disorder. Use the Threshold to time the trigger, time, and number of repeats to shape your repetitions, and then use the Decay to fade them away. There is also a neat sync option and freezer.
Dynabit’s built-in modulation engine highlights the plugin and sets everything in motion. It includes two multi-wave LFOs, two envelope followers, two sequencers, and MIDI control to animate parameters.
You can map the parameters to the modulation using drag-and-drop and manage it with the modulation matrix. The modulators can then take the bitcrusher engine deeper into crushing, distorting, and mangling areas.
To get started, Caelum Audio ships the Dynabit plugin with 50 presets in distinct categories: basic, drums, glitch, and tonal.
