Two new Klavis modules: ComPair, a comparator, and the 1U version of its Tweakers Plus utility module, plus a developer talk with the founder.
Let’s stay in Belgium. At Superbooth 24, Klavis announced two new utility modules for Eurorack, one of which is a 1U version of a popular one.
Klavis has released the ComPair and Tweakers Plus 1U today and they will be available from retailers shortly.
Klavis ComPair & Tweakers Plus 1U
ComPair is a 3HP voltage-controlled comparator module that can be used for various tasks, such as reshaping and manipulating signals, triggering events, or realizing level-dependent logic functions. It can also be used for audio and trigger signals.
The module comprises two sections (A & B), each independently useable as a comparator. Additionally, you can use them globally as a window comparator in your system with an offset knob. To achieve this, input A is normalized and copies the signal into input B for window comparison.
It also offers hi and lo bipolar threshold adjustment knobs. Klavis ComPair has three outputs, each offering a 3-position switch, allowing you to choose independently settable polarity and muting functions.
This includes inverted logic, output mute, and normal logic, plus you can OR the outputs using multiples. Three LEDs indicate the output logic to keep track of what’s happening, which is nice because it gives you visual feedback on the process.
Klavis Tweakers Plus 1U
Besides the new Klavis ComPair, there is a second module release. It’s a popular one in a new format. Klavis has turned the Tweakers Plus on its side and made it ready for the 1U format. According to the developer, it’s a 1U module for the Intellijel format.
Tweakers Plus 1U offers the same feature set as the 3U version. It has two channels, each with dedicated ins and outs and control over gain and offset. A three-position switch allows you to mute the channel and invert the modulation polarity—all this without impacting the offset.
It ships with a pair of LEDs for visual feedback over the amplitude and polarity of the output signal. Normalization is also available on the inputs for signal multiplication and on the outputs for mixing and summing the channels.
Klavis Tweakers Plus 1U can be used in various ways, including an audio mixer, modulation fine-tuner, and more.
Developer Talk
At Superbooth 24, I had a long conversation with Eric Lukac Kuruc, the founder of Klavis. In addition to the new Klavis ComPair and Tweakers Plus 1U, we talk about the company market, module developments, the Eurorack market, and more.
First Impression
Two exciting utility modules for Eurorack. Even if they are very compact, small modules, they make patching more complex, versatile, and interesting. It doesn’t always have to be the big flagship modules; the small ones can also nicely expand a system with new options.
Klavis ComPair is available now in silver ($146/139€) and black version ($156/149€) and Tweakers Plus 1U for $103/99€.
