Kiviak Instruments Texturer is WoFi sampler’s granular reverb processor in a new effects plugin for macOS and Windows.

The WoFi sampler from the young French company Kiviak Instruments has been available at international retailers since the beginning of November.  Last year, in October, the Kickstarter campaign started and was successfully completed.

Alongside the WoFi sampler, an FX plugin called Texturer was also announced during this Kickstarter campaign. Good news: Kiviak Instruments has just released the Texturer for macOS and Windows.

Texturer is a new FX processor that pulls out the granular reverb processor of the WoFi sampler and puts it in a new effect processor for macOS and Windows. According to Kiviak Instruments, it uses granular self-mixing to arrange your sound into grains to create new layers.

It’s a very straightforwardly designed FX processor with a handful of parameters and lovely real-time visualizations. In the middle, there are seven knobs: size, density, chaos, width, speed, pitch, and dry/wet.

On the left, you have a size control that allows you to tweak the grain size. Density sets the amount of grains the processor will re-introduce into the signal. It’s an important parameter as it alters the results from subtle to more intensive textures.

Then, chaos controls the order in which the grains are re-injected in the Kiviak Instruments Texturer engine. Increase the level of the parameter, and the rejection becomes more random while decreasing, giving you a more classic effect.

The width parameter sets the width of the stereo image. A pitch shifter is also part of the granular reverb processor. You can control it with two parameters. Speed influences the reading speed of the grains, and pitch allows you to apply the pitch to the reinjected grains.

Of course, a dry/wet mix function is also onboard to create the perfect balance between the effected audio effect and the original signal. You can also tweak the harmonics of the process by exploring the lower section.

Further, Kiviak Instruments ships Texturer with a white and black GUI, factory presets, and a handy patch randomizer.

First Impression

I am pleased that the Texturer FX plugin is ready so soon after the hardware release. It is an interesting new FX plugin that lets you add texture to any sound. A more detailed test must show how versatile and flexible it is.

Kiviak Instruments Texturer is available now 49€. It runs as a VST and AU plugin on macOS (native Apple Silicon + Intel), Linux and Windows.
