Nudlhed Noodle Rider is a new analog CV- and MIDI-controllable four-track cassette tape instrument for Eurorack.

VCO, VCF, VCA, Env, LFOs… classic elements in a Eurorack Synthesizer. However, many other ways exist to create sounds, such as with a creative sampler with advanced features.

If you like it more analog and vintage, check out the new Noodle Rider from Nudlhed. This new module brings CV-controllable tape magic to your Eurorack system.

Noodle Rider consists of two modules and is a complete tape instrument designed for Eurorack. The heart is a four-track cassette player. Insert a tape, and the fun begins.

Each track represents an instrument voice that can be used as the source signal for further sound processing, such as envelope control, filtering, and more.

Tracks are always controlled together. Nudlhead Noodle Rider modulates the pre-recorded single tones or audio loops from all four tracks of a cassette tape record. They are played simultaneously with the same CV- and MIDI-controllable variable-speed playback.

Bonus for MIDI uses. Noodle Rider allows to map a set of any pitches, corresponding them to twelve MIDI notes, to play these pre-mapped pitches back with MIDI device or DAW. Unfortunately, recording on the tape is, however, not possible.

Sidecar

The main module provides four audio outputs and one gate output. Big fun begins with the Sidecar extension module, which makes the Nudlhed Noodle Rider more playful and creative.

Sidecar consists of four AD/AR envelope generators that control four VCAs. Each envelope generator can be triggered with a switchable gate-source input (Common Gate, MIDI Sequencer Gate, or External Gate).

It also hosts a MIDI gate sequencer that converts each note into a pulse with a width equal to the note’s hold time, i.e. a gate signal. Then, each generated gate signal controls the corresponding envelope generator.

The module unlocks the power of gate-controlled sounds in combination with the base module, allowing you to create wild rhythmic tape patterns. Sidecar includes a four-channel mixer with dedicated audio inputs to incorporate the four tracks of the Noodle Rider base.

You can install these modules in any Eurorack case. Alternatively, Nudlhead offers the Noodle Rider Case, turning the modules into a standalone device. On the back, it offers a power supply input and additional CV connectivity: four CV inputs, four envelope outputs, MIDI thru, and a com gate in.

First Impression

What a crazy but beautiful idea for Eurorack! Yes, it is a very niche module in the Eurorack niche, but I think such projects must have their place in the modular world. Love it.

The Nudlhed Noodle Rider Base module is now available for $395. The Sidecar module costs $275, and the matching case is $229. Both are available upon request.

  1. I’m assuming that adding in a record functionality would have increased the costs ten-fold. But the lack of it pushes this into hyper-fringe-use territory.

  2. Great company name, otherwise this is just wasted resources for a half baked product. I guess the name of the company is more appropriate than I realised.
