The Dreadbox Chromatic module series is now available in a new black version with an option to swap the faceplate of the original module.
Dreadbox has been busy in the last few months. At Superbooth 24, they released the MURMUX Adept, a limited-edition polyphonic analogue Synthesizer. At Machina Bristonica, the NYX returned to the market as an affordable reissue version.
Now, there is the next news from Greece. The popular colorful Dreadbox Chromatic modules are now also available in a sexy black look.
Dreadbox Chromatic Black
The new Chromatic Black modules are identical to the original colorful modules. The only thing that changes is the faceplate.
I find the new black faces very appealing because they bring the popular black look to Dreadbox modules but also have a subtle contrast, so they don’t like classic black/silver modules.
It is nice to note that Dreadbox also offers black faceplates for purchase to existing users. This means you can quickly upgrade your modules to the new look.
The following modules are available, two of them already in the black version.
- Dystopia (Black): noise generator, bit-crusher, and dual filter
- Nostalgia (Black): 3-stage hybrid delay based on the Erebus v2’s circuit
- Hysteria: analog VCO with built-in auto-tune and scaler – video review
- Eudemonia: mixer, filter, and VCA trio – video review
- Utopia: CV audio manipulator with four attenuverters, offset generator, 4 to 3 mixer, VCLFO, and pulserizer effect.
- Euphoria: full analog 8-stage phase shifter
First Impression
I think it’s a good move to offer these in black. Many people want black systems, and the colorful ones don’t fit that great in this. Now they fit and they bring a bit color in every black case.
The first two Dreadbox Chromatic black modules are available now for 98€ + VAT, and the faceplates are available for 15€ + VAT.
