Analogue Solutions AS500-SEQ is a modern reboot/comeback of the Megacity hardware sequencer in a smaller format.

As everyone has probably noticed, today is Moog Day. The Moog Muse was finally released. But it wasn’t just Moog that unveiled something beautiful. The analog experts from Analog Solutions also have news.

They have revived one of their most popular products today, the Megacity.

Analogue Solutions AS500-SEQ

The new AS500-SEQ is an official reboot/comeback of the previous Megacity hardware sequencer. Unlike the original, it has a new desktop design and a smaller form factor.

Analogue Solutions says it’s almost the same as the Megacity but with some general enhancements and internal improvements. This includes a revised interface which now looks more modern with CV pots. A unique LED matrix style tear drop raining LEDs provide visual feedback.

The unique workflow also remained the same. The AS-500 SEQ patterns run vertically downwards in columns instead of from left to right.

The AS-500-SEQ is a pure vintage-style analog hardware sequencer without memory, internal quantization, or MIDI. If you only need CV/gate connectivity, this is perfect for you.

It consists of two different modes. Either fire up all 64 steps in series mode or use 2 channels with 32 steps each in the parallel mode. This enables the sequencing of two different instruments.

Unique Features

Besides its original workflow, it also has the same unique features. For example, the jump systems where rest of the column’s steps are bypassed and the sequencer jumps straight to the start of the next column.

Another creative feature allows you to split the sequencer in half and use the right half as a fill-in pattern to add variations, much like a vintage drum machine. You can activate these fills via a push button or a trigger pulse. Plus, you can work clock divisions for more variations.

The I/O side on the Analog Solutions AS500-SEQ includes two CV outputs with range and glide (portamento), four gate outs (2 per channel), a sync step and reset inputs, clock out, and more. These are compatible with Eurorack and most analog synths with CV/gate input.

All this analog sequencing fun sits in a solid steel and aluminum construction.

First Impression

I’m glad that the Megacity is back on the market in a new format. There’s no denying that this is a hardware sequencer that won’t appeal to everyone. The AS500-SEQ will probably appeal to users of vintage analog synths and analog working practices.

Analogue Solutions AS500-Seq is available now for £999 + VAT. Like all AS products, it’s hand-built in Great Britain.
