Superbooth 24: IO Instruments has announced three new modules: Leda a dual multimode filter, Taygete a mixing tool, and the comeback of the Sponde.
Yesterday I reported on the news from Rides in Strom. The company was founded by ex-MFB employee Uwe Gieger. IO Instruments is another company in which Uwe is active in at the same time. They are also in Berlin next week.
For Superbooth 24, they announce two new modules (Leda, Taygete) and a module comeback.
IO Instruments Leda
Leda is a new 14HP dual multimode filter for Eurorack with dual VCA. Each channel features a dedicated input with an input drive. From here, it goes into the multimode filter that offers bypass operation, lowpass, bandpass, highpass, and notch with self-oscillation.
Via a jumper on the backside, you can also unlock an alternative operation mode, turning the filter into an LFO. Each filter is CV controllable via the inputs: both linear and exponential FM, each with attenuator, key track, resonance, and VCA. The module has VCF and VCA outputs. Looks like a feature-rich filter.
IO Instruments Taygete
The second new module for Superbooth 24 is the Taygete, a 4-channel CV-controllable mixer (26HP) with built-in multimode filter and a VCA per channel.
IO Instruments Taygete offers four channels, each equipped with a multimode filter with resonance, two AUX sends, pre/post switch, panning, mute/solo, and level control.
The filter is based on the same design as in the new Leda module and offers bypass operation, lowpass, bandpass, highpass, and notch with self-oscillation. Like on the Leda, it also comes with the hidden LFO operation mode.
A highlight of this mixer + filter + VCA trio is the ability to voltage control the parameters of each channel, including the cutoff + resonance, pan, level, and more. So you can operate not only as a classic mixer but also as a filter bank-style module, a self-oscillating sound generator, quad LFO, and more.
IO Instruments Sponde: The Comeback
Due to great demand from the Eurorack community after its discontinuation, the Sponde 2×6 channel mixer is coming back in a jet-black special edition.
Like the original Sponde (20HP), it’s a DC-coupled 2×6 channel audio and CV mixer with individual outputs for channels 1 to 4. Sponde offers flexible routing options for mono, stereo, 6 or 12-channel mixing tasks.
First Impression
Two exciting new modules. The IO Instruments Taygete, in particular, looks like a very interesting release. Glad to see Sponde coming back to the market
IO Instruments Leda and Taygete will be available in Autumn 2024—price TBA. The new Sponde batch will be available in June 2024 for 185€ incl. VAT.
