Leak: will Oberheim present the TEO-5 at Superbooth 24, a new budget-friendly analog Synthesizer in the style of the Sequential Take 5?
In exactly three weeks, the Superbooth will start again in Berlin. Many new synthesizers, drum machines, and Eurorack modules are expected again.
A piece of news didn’t want to wait and has now become known via a leak. Oberheim will introduce a new analog polyphonic Synthesizer. But one that is within the budget range for the first time.
LEAK: Oberheim TEO-5
Oberheim returned as a brand with the OB-X8. A gorgeous-sounding flagship analog polyphonic Synthesizer for over 4000€. Yes, a lot of money. A device that not many can afford. For the Superbooth 24, they are showing a new instrument that more people can afford.
According to the Leak, it will be called Oberheim TEO-5 and will be a 5-voice polyphonic analog Synthesizer with the same design as the Sequential Take 5.
The leak says it will have two oscillators, sync and X-mod. It will also have a classic SEM filter with continuously variable characteristics from lowpass to band stop to high pass and a bandpass mode.
If it is based on the same platform as the Take 5, both will share many features, including the envelopes, LFOs, sequencer, arpeggiator, and effects. Yes, probably also the display and preset management are the same. Both look very similar in design and I suspect they are based on a platform
On the backside, it offers an internal power supply input, USB port, full 5-pin MIDI interface, pedal inputs, stereo output (L/R) and a headphone socket.
Oberheim has not yet officially announced the TEO-5, which will probably happen for Superbooth 2024. According to the leak, it will cost 1699€. I’m curious what the TEO-5 will sound like. And, of course, whether the leak is true. But I’m almost certain. The picture and information look very authentic

Just nabbed a DTII yesterday so I thought I was out but I’m being pulled back in. This will be very very very hard to resist. I’m lacking an OB, have always wanted one, and the T5 is a great synth. Instabuy dare I say it.
Desktop version pleeeeeeeease!!! (As there are not enough octaves for a musician to play for real on it…)
I mean, I can. But can’t you just plug a larger keyboard into MIDI? I like desktops too but there’s no Take 5 module so I’m not holding my breath.
I have a hacksaw.. so yeah, could cut the keyboard off, or I just grab a UB-Xa and get 16 voices, 5 octaves, and 500€ left on my account instead…
You get what you pay for, way more advanced capabilities, better build quality, better support/os updates..
not to mention your support and respect to the original manufacturer instead of feeding the leach.
desktop please! for people who don’t care about keys
I’m in!!! I’ll take one!
At €1699.00, we clearly have varying concepts of ‘budget-friendly’. Unless that’s a type-o by about €1000.00…
everything is relative, compared to a 4k$ instrument it is budget friendly.
Juno 106 in today’s money would cost about 2.5k$, and it was considered an opportunity for people on a very tight budget.
will it be the first oberheim in many years with a proper mod matrix?
Considering it’s the ‘second’ Oberheim in many years in any form whatsoever, I’m tempted to take it;) (with much respect to Tom O’s recent instruments! Former SEM owner, replaced by an SE Omega 2) To the regret of the anti-Behringer crowd, the choices made on the UB-Xa are excellent and I’d love to see Sequential/Oberheim/Focusrite/whatever do something similar…hard to argue with 5-octaves, 16 voices and polyAT? And with the lovely blue pinstripe livery! <3 But this seems quite nice and if 5 voices, and ‘American assembled’ (Avengers Assemble!:D ) I would have loved to have this as a kid…except when I was an actual kid, you could get a real OB-Xa or OB-8 (which I preferred) for $500. USD, in NYC…so much for progress.
Love my take5 and the form factor. Looks like a buy for me if it sounds like an oberheim. Love the LFO in mono and Poly. Can’t wait to see more of it. Btw, where are all your discovery from Synthfest?
there are already many articles out and on YouTube 😉

Need a desktop module. I already have a take 5. This would be perfect to have a DT module to plug it into.
If the sound is not different from OB-X8 and filters/LFOs are the same
then its a hit. I personally can put up with many “cutouts” except the quality of the sound, and parameters that shape it.
What is the TEO-5’s build quality like. Is it plastic, aluminium or something else?
