Korg iM1 1.2 is out now, a free update giving its M1 Synthesizer workstation emulation on iOS AUv3 plugin and iPhone support.

In recent years, the iPad has evolved into a full-fledged music production hub. A milestone was the introduction of the AUv3 plugin format, which allows apps to be used multiple instances. Many developers have adapted their apps to the format. Korg, one of the big players on the iOS market, however, ignored it for a long time.

In 2019, I wrote an article about it and described it as a never-ending story. Hope dies last, as the saying goes. That’s how it is. Korg surprisingly released Gadget 3 with AUv3 support shortly before NAMM. It was a big bang for the iOS music production world.

Even more AUv3 releases have been promised because external apps such as iMS-20 or iMonoPoly do not fully function in Gadget 3.

Good news for April 1st: iM1, Korg’s iPad version of the M1 Synthesizer workstation, has been updated. Version 1.2 now supports AUv3, allowing you to use the app in multiple instances in your favorite iOS DAW—a novelty for an app that came onto the market in 2015.

Nope, there is no macOS AUv3 version because Korg offers an AU version separately in the Korg Collection 4. It would be nice, but it’s not the case here.

Besides this, iM1 is also now available on iPhone. Existing iPad iM1 users can download the iPhone version from the App Store.

Attention: a bug on the App Store shows you, as an iPad user, the price for the iPhone version. Click on it; the App Store will recognize your previous purchase, and the iPhone version will be free. Further, the Korg developers tweaked the engine to improve stability.

This is very good news from Korg. I almost thought it was an April 1st joke. Hopefully, we will soon also have iMono/Poly and iMS-20 as AUv3 versions.

Korg iM1 1.2 is a free update for existing users of the app. iM1 is available now on the Apple AppStore for $29,99 (regular price) and runs on iPad and iPhone as a standalone app and as an AUv3 plugin.
