NAMM 2025: AAS has announced Multiphonics CV-3, a major update of its modular synth plugin with new physical modeling and FM synthesis power, MPE, and more.

NAMM 2025 is open; above all, people can see the latest hardware instruments and products in person. But NAMM is also a show for software. Companies like Bitwig, U-he, and others show their new plugins there. The Canadian company Applied Acoustics Systems is also there.

AAS has unveiled the upcoming Multiphonics CV-3 today, a major update for its unique modular Synthesizer plugin for macOS and Windows.

Like CV-2, Multiphonics CV-3 will not be a free update, but upgrades will be available for existing users once it’s released.

AAS Multiphonics CV-3 remains a modular Synthesizer and FX processor plugin. Unlike VCV Rack or Cherry Audio, AAS takes a different approach with it is modular synth plugin and does not emulate the Eurorack world. This can be seen in the developed modules and its concept.

The AAS developers have incorporated exciting new features into the new version.

A highlight will be support for full polyphony. Until now, you could only make very complex monophonic patches. With Multiphonics CV-3, polyphonic patches are finally possible. On of that, you can play these new polyphonic patches expressively with MPE.

Then, it offers some new exciting stuff on the module front. Multiphonics CV-3 will feature a new 3-operator FM oscillator module and new acoustic objects oscillators. Yes finally. Physical modeling is finally coming to the Multiphonics Synthesizer plugin—something I wanted for a long time.

Next to this, it features all-new comb and tube filters, expanding the sound capabilities of the plugin. Other new additions is a new oscilloscope module for signal visualization and new CV generator. The new version will also ship with 100 new synth and effects patches.

“The standout feature of Multiphonics CV-3 is its new polyphonic
capability, which fundamentally transforms its potential as a musical instrument,” says Benoit Charland, lead product designer at Applied Acoustics Systems. “A patch can be made polyphonic with literally the push of a button—a simplicity rare among modular racks, which are monophonic in nature.

We’ve also expanded the module library with new acoustic oscillators based on our award-winning physical modeling technology, bringing AAS’s signature tone and feel into the modular realm. Combined with the new MPE compatibility, this opens the door to crafting truly unique synths with unparalleled expressive control.”

First Impression

At first glance, an exciting upcoming update for the AAS Multiphonics CV-3 Synthesizer plugin. Of the new features, this update appeals to me the most so far because of the addition of the physical modeling oscillators and the polyphony. I’m looking forward to checking out the new version.

AAS Multiphonics CV-3 will be available during Q1 2025. Until its release, Multiphonics CV-2 is on sale with a 33% OFF discount and includes a free upgrade to Multiphonics CV-3.
