Oms In Serial FX Einheit is a new Daisy Sub Module-based multi-FX module for Eurorack with reverb, delay, and filter.

Platforms like Arduino, Raspberry Pi, or Daisy offer music software developers an inexpensive way to enter the hardware world. Electro Smith Daisy, in particular, has made many exciting projects possible in recent years: unique Noise Engineering and Qu-Bit modules, the Chompi Club sampler, and many more.

One of the lesser-known ones is the FM Einheit, an FM synth voice module that I reported on last October. Oms In Serial, the developer of this module, continues his Daisy journey with another module—a release that is just as exciting. This one lacks synth power but has effects.

FX Einheit is a new 20HP stereo multi-effects module based on the Erb framework and is powered by the Electro Smith Daisy Sub Module with 65 MB.

The Erb framework on its side, is a project that allows you to developer your own custom Eurorack module, using various programming languages  and environments (C++, Faust, Cycling’74…)

Oms In Serial’s new module has three effects: a reverb, a delay, and a filter. Each of the three sections can process and output the incoming signal independently. This gives you the freedom to you use the effects individually.

Alternatively, you can route each FX output to another FX input using the big knobs in the top section. The delay can be routed to the reverb, which can be routed to the filter.

Each effects has various hands-on parameters. Reverb offers control over the size, damp, and a gen w/d, while the delay has time and feedback controls. Then, the filter has frequency, resonance, width, and drive control. With a button press, you also have access to secondary parameters.

Nice, FX Einheit has plenty of CV inputs with dedicated attenuverters. So, you can not only manually tweak paraemters but also with CV. According to OIS, the module has a curren draw of 135 mA +12V,  and 39 mA – 12V

First Impression

At first glance, a nice project. Even if it cannot replace my Happy Nerding FX Aid, I think the hands-on control approach to the module makes it very appealing.

Oms In Serial FX Einheit is available now for $180 on Tindie. The Electro Smith Daisy Sub Module 65M is not included in the package. It costs $28,35 (US) /58€ (Europe).
