Source Of Uncertainty is a Buchla USA and Roman Filippov (Black Corporation) collaboration that makes authentic 200 series module reissues.
The NAMM Show enters its third day today. We’ve already seen some exciting Synthesizer news. Today, the Buchla & Friends, a Synth Maker Showcase event, is taking place at the same time as NAMM. Not in Anaheim, but in LA. A 1-day event organized by Buchla USA that brings together many small synth companies. Many had booths at NAMM in the past.
We also expect news here. One is now known. Source of Uncertainty is a new company by Buchla USA and Roman Filippov (Black Corporation) with the mission to make reissues of the legendary Buchla 200 modules in original sizes.
Source Of Uncertainty
The company is named after the popular Buchla random modulation module Source Of Uncertainty, which is now also available from Tiptop in Eurorack. They specialize in official reissues of classic Buchla modules in their original sizes and are fully compatible with vintage and modern Buchla modules.
It’s no coincidence that they both work together. Roman Filippov had been doing reissues for a long time before his time at Black Corporation. Now, they are making common cause under the official Buchla name.
According to Roman, the modules are not only reissues but also improved versions of the original Buchla. For example, the oscillators now work on 10 octaves (2-3x).
The first modules are already available, others are coming in March, and others have been announced. There are all-time classics (259 oscillator…) but also huge modules like the Multiple Arbitrary Function Generator Model 248.

I hope Tiptop does a Buchla touchplate controller. Regardless of whatever line or series it’s a part of because some people get super obnoxious about TTA/Buchla’s original goal. Maybe not as long so it fits the 3U size and to reduce cost. Nowadays, if someone in eurorack does a controller, it has to be super weird, highly specific, and $700+. A basic Music Easel style controller would be just fine!
