Psychic Modulation VectoMelt2 is a major update of its lush-sounding modulation multi-FX plugin for macOS and Windows.

In 2019, Psychic Modulation published VectoMelt, a unique multi-FX plugin that envelops sounds with a vintage-like lush character. To achieve this, it modulates different effects using wow and flutter. Plus, an X/Y pad brings movement into play.

The VectoMelt story now continues in VectoMelt2. PM has recently released the second generation with new features, including a new GUI, and more.

The first news appears when you open the plugin for the first time. Yes, the VectoMelt2 GUI is new, fully scalable, and significantly more compact. It’s less wide and is now more of a box.

Nothing has changed in terms of concept. VectoMelt2 remains a modulation multi-FX that takes your sounds into lush, drifting worlds. Or, in the words of Psychic Modulation, it “brings your sounds to life with tonal texture, spatial drifting, and ethereal atmosphere.”

VectoMelt 2 has four main effects: a lush chorus with a multi-voice stereo spread, a unique phaser-like filter, a dub-style delay/echo unit, and a LoFi processor.

Then, you get additional wow and flutter, adding analog-style drifting, instability, and random fluctuation to the effects. In the dedicated melt vector section, you can map both modulators to various targets: pitch, amp, filter, and echo.

The X/Y pad can then bring a lot of movement into the effects. The X-axis allows you to mix the wow & flutter at two different speeds, while the Y-axis controls the overall mod depth.

AutoMod, on the other side, is another clever addition. It’s a modulation engine that causes the XY pad to circulate and jump sporadically. Using the auto-pilot, you can achieve pitch glitches, resonant blips, and filter swirls.

It may not be a major feature for you, but the ability to save the settings in presets in each section is very practical in my opinion. This way you can experiment with your favorite settings. Plus, each section has its own randomizer for instant new results.

First Impression

An excellent update for the VectoMelt multi-FX processor. The new features make sense and the plugin looks more rounded and grown-up.

Psychic Modulation VectoMelt2 is available now for an introductory price of $54 + VAT instead of $69 until January 20th, 2024. There is an upgrade offer available for existing VectoMelt users. Please email the developer to benefit from a special price.
