BeepStreet has published Drambo 2.25, a massive free update for its modular Synthesizer/Sampler groovebox for iOS and macOS.
As you’ve probably seen, Groovebox has been a big topic for many years and many more to come, mainly in hardware form. For friends of touch devices, there are also groove boxes for mobile devices.
In 2020, Beepstreet entered the iOS world with its Drambo app and quickly became the top dog in the mobile groovebox sector. That’s because it has a unique selling point: a modular engine that goes super deep and is constantly being expanded by the developer. And with the introduction of AUv3, Drambo is also available as a macOS app at no extra cost. Today, the developer released a massive free update with update 2.25
Beepstreet Drambo 2.25
Drambo is miles ahead of many Grooveboxes on iOS, thanks to its modular engine. It features over 120 modules such as oscillator, samplers, physical modeling modules, LFOs, envelope generators and LFOs, filters, effects, mixers, sequencers, math functions, and more.
Great is that you don’t necessarily have to use Drambo as a groovebox; you can also use it as an AUv3 modular Synthesizer for macOS and iOS. Today, there is a new update that increases the feature significantly.
Some new features are available as iAP; others are free. The following new features and improvements are part of the free update.
Sampler & Synth Engine News
Let’s start with new features and improvements on the sampler and synth engine
- sample browser now includes a web browser mode for downloading samples directly from websites
- analog filter module gives you a new analog-modeled filter model FDB LP12 – self-modulating 2-pole LP filter
- new features for the wavetable module
- wave spline module allowing you to draw or waveshape own wavetables
- new type of wavetable modulation in the wave motion module
- new bitmask phase effect in the wave effect module.
- Flexi sampler: Load and Rec buttons are visible, when sample is not loaded. Swipe down to remove sample.
- LFO module now offers sine and random triangle waveforms
- sample browser now includes a web browser mode for downloading samples directly from websites
- oscillator mini module now has 2 detuned saws mode
- you can now sync the bar in the graphic envelope module
- pitch module – semi and fine paramters are bipolar now
Recording, MIDI & Workflow News
There are also various new additions and improvements on the recording, MIDI, and workflow side:
- in the clip menu, you can import and export MIDI clips
- rack view with up to 110% of its original size (iPad only in the settings)
- new MIDI sequencer module
- Flexi sampler: Load and Rec buttons are visible, when sample is not loaded. Swipe down to remove sample.
- Recorder module: sample is saved with a project. Tapping wave shows extended view
- X/Y pad module with a new popover mode
- morph module with a fix and a new “clear assigns” action
- stems recording: tapping play while transport is running will disarm recording
- long labels are truncated in the middle
- clip p-locking: remains active when Select button is down
- the piano keyboard now offers a Mixolydian scale
Plus, it comes with various fixes, including the piano roll editor and multitrack step sequencer, AUv3 parameter mappings, and Ableton Link.
DSP Extension 1
Free feature updates are very welcome. Especially if it’s been like this for a long time. But as an indie developer, you can’t do that constantly, because it also takes a lot of time to develop and you don’t get it financially back.
With the DSP Extension 1 there are now two more modules that you can buy and thus support the developer. The new DSP Extension 1 gives you a new wave scanner module and a BBD resonator.
First Impression
This is a massive free update for Drambo even without the extra DSP extension. I am pleased to see that Drambo continues to be developed in this way.
The new BeepStreet Drambo 2.25 is available as a free download. The new DSP extension 1 is available for 5,99€ and the Drambo app for 22,99€ with both support for iOS and macOS (Apple Silicon).
