Reverbs are among the most popular effects in music production. A trend shows that reverbs are becoming more complex. Granular, with built-in delay… reverbs are no longer simple FXs, they are often multi-effects that can do more than just the bread and butter reverbs.
Good for sound explorers, less so for music producers who want to get results quickly. Simplifying complex engines is the core task of the company UJAM Instruments. With their Finisher plugins, they’ve made multi-effects child’s play. The UFX Reverb plugin takes this idea further into the reverb world.
Ujam Instruments UFX Reverb
UFX Reverb is a new high quality algorithmic reverb plugin for macOS and Windows. At its core is a deep reverb engine supported by “art-ificial intelligence,” making it a “frustration-free”, creative, and fun experience.
It hosts ten algorithmic reverb types, including basic, room, hall, plate, spring, digital, 80s, warm, gated, and reverse. The parameters are divided into two areas. Dimension offers controls over the time, size, and pre-delay, while character allows you to shape the reverb timbre with the pots diffusion, damping, and modulation.
The plugin also offers a unique auto-ducking function, a dry/wet mix control, input/output visualization, and a freeze function for instant ambient textures and rich soundscapes.
A highlight of the plugin is the built-in multi-effects engine, which allows you to take the reverb in new directions. First, you can work with a filter module featuring 25 creative filter models, including a unique megaphone model.
Further, you can activate the Finisher FX engine featuring 50 different flavors which can be mixed super easy with an amount knob. In the Finisher engine, you can find effects like different gates, chorus, vibrato, phaser, synthesize, drones, time warp, evolving freeze, delays, glitch, and more. So you can create all-new creative reverb effects in no time.
First Impression
At first glance a very elegant reverb plugin. Very clear and easy to use. Especially the possibility to work with various filters and many finisher effects sounds like a lot of fun. I’m pretty sure you can go here well beyond classic reverb timbres.
UJAM UFX Reverb is available now for an introductory price of 49€ instead of 69€ until August 6th, 2023. It runs as a VST, VST3, AU, and AAX plugin on macOS (Intel + native Apple Silicon) and Windows. There is a 30-day trial version available on the developer website.
