NAMM 2023: 5 years after the initial announcement, the Zynaptiq Orange Vocoder IV will finally be released on May 1st, 2023.
Long wait for a product release. Musicians know this feeling very well from Behringer’s announcements. But it’s also there in the software. Five years ago, the German software company Zynaptiq announced the Orange Vocoder V, the successor to the popular Orange Vocoder plugin by Prosoniq. Zynaptiq took over this project at the time and developed it further.
Five years of waiting for a plugin. That’s extreme, and so the expectations are huge. At NAMM 2023 came the good news that the plugin is now ready for release. According to a Zynaptiq picture on Twitter, that will be on May 1st, 2023.
Zynaptiq Orange Vocoder IV
No belated April 1st joke. The Orange Vocoder IV will be officially released in just under two weeks. And it’s a very powerful vocoder.
It will feature a rewritten and expanded engine featuring 22 unique algorithms, including formant shifting, expansion, stereo operation, and more. The dedicated Synthesizer section also benefits from a completely rewritten and aliasing-free engine. It comes with unison and mono legato operation, thru-zero linear FM, comprehensive modulation options, and more.
Then, it will feature a new voice pitch quantization module that is controllable via MIDI input with pitch-bend and glide data information. According to Zynapiq, Orange Vocoder IV also hosts a new preset cloud functionality allowing you to exchange presets with other users.
Further, the new version offers a new, streamlined multi-view UI with new workflow features. This includes sub-presets and smart section randomization, and more.
I made a demo video of the Orange Vocoder IV at the Musikmesse back in 2018. Those were the beginnings of my activity, hehe.
First Impression
Already in 2018 I was very impressed by the capabilities of the Orange Vocoder IV. I almost assumed that the plugin would no longer be released. It’s great to see that it is coming in May because Zynaptiq plugins are of very high quality and always offer innovative concepts for editing sounds. Looking forward for the final release.
Zynaptiq Orange Vocoder IV will be available May 1st, 2023. It will run as a 64-bit VST3, AU, and AAX plugin on macOS (Intel + native Apple Silicon) and Windows. Price TBA but Zynaptiq promises special upgrade prices.
