NUSofting Echobis is a new experimental stereo delay plugin including granular processing, cross-modulation… at a very reasonable price.

If you visit the NUSofting website, you can see immediately that the plugins offered are not classic. They have special concepts, a bit more exotic, even experimental. Something I really appreciate it when developers dare something and don’t rest on classic designs. It can be wilder and more daring. We always want to create new sounds.

And the new Echobis effect plugin fits perfectly in its unique portfolio of virtual instruments and effects.

Echobis is not a standard delay plugin. It is special in many ways. The core consists of two individual delay lines where you can set the tempo in milliseconds or sync to the host. There are also amplitude and pitch modulation that can be synced to the delay times. For each delay (I, II), you can also control the feedback via dedicated control.

Then, they feature cross-modulation aka cross-feed for more wild sounds as well as panorama and volume settings for each delay line. That’s not all. Each delay feedback also hosts a granulator which can be set in time but runs freely afterward. Sync option is not available but would be cool to see it in a future update. There is also a built-in high-pass and lowpass filter (12dB/8va) built in right in the feedback of each delay line.

Further, it features an analog drift button with two available stages that introduce random modulations to the sounds. Plus, you can invert the phase of the echo for each delay line via a button. Additionally, you get a built-in compressor for the decay of the echoes with a switchable soft or strong mode.

The plugin is capable of creating a wide of timbres that classic delays just can’t do. From rhythmic atmospheres, granularized spheres, shimmering effects, and more.

NUSofting also offers an interesting interface. Besides its “hands-on” controls, it offers window scaling and the option to modify the color using 11 different themes. It also gives you the level of the feedback via peak meeters.

At first sight a tempting granular delay with an interesting feature set. I wouldn’t have expected anything else from NUSofting. The developer is known for more experimental concepts for instruments and processors. And the asking price is super reasonable making it affordable for everyone.

NUSofting Echobis is available now for an introductory price of 9€ (regular 18,90€) until June 29th, 2022. It runs as a VST2 and AU support on macOS (Intel + M1) and Windows. A demo version is available on the website.
