IK Multimedia iRig Pro Quattro I/O is a new portable 4 x 2 audio & MIDI interface made for field recordings and content creations.

IK Multimedia is also returning to Superbooth 22 with a booth. It is not yet known whether there will be a new Synthesizer, drum machine, or other instrument for electronic musicians. But there is already today a new IK product. One that is not primarily made for electronic musicians but more for everybody.

Today, they have expanded their iRig audio interface range with the iRig Pro Quattro I/O. A new mobile audio interface focused on field recordings.

IK Multimedia iRig Pro Quattro I/O

The new iRig Pro Quattro I/O is a new compact audio and MIDI interface (24-bit/96kHz) with 4 inputs and 2 outputs that comes in two versions. A standard and a deluxe. Input side, you get 4 mic/line/instrument inputs with XLR, RCA, and TRS connections. They consist of high-quality, low-noise mic preamps with phantom power. Stereo and headphone outputs on balanced XLR and 3.5mm connection on the output side.

Additionally, on the deluxe version, you get custom iRig XY stereo mix capsules (on XLR connectors), and more accessories. Plus, you get full MIDI I/O on 2.5mm TRS sockets. Classic MIDI sockets would certainly have been better, but the portable form factor doesn’t make that possible.

It records to any mobile device, computer, or even DSLR cameras. The Quattro I/O device works with everything out of the box, including iPhone, iPad, Android, Mac, and PC. It also serves as a standalone mic preamp or line mixer, with a built-in limiter and direct monitoring.

Audio Interface, Field Recorder & Standalone Mixer

The iRig Pro Quattro I/O is an audio interface as well as a field recorder. But one without an internal recording function. Instead of supporting SD cards, the device uses your mobile device or Mac/PC for memory and turns so into a full-featured, professional field recorder.

Plus it has an onboard digitally enhanced MEMS microphone and optional stereo mic capsules making field recordings possible. I like the idea because in the past I often had problems with field recorders and the built-in SD card slots. Then, it also works as a standalone preamp and mixer powered via 4x AA batteries, USB, or DC IN.

The full set of inputs/outputs can be used to capture and mix multiple sources to DSLR cameras or send their mix to a PA system with professional quality.

Broadcast / Podcast Interface

The new IK Multimedia interface is also optimized for broadcasters and podcasters. In stereo mode Rig Pro Quattro I/O mixes all sources down to stereo for streaming or recording. Monitoring is easy thanks to a dedicated headphone output with independent volume control and direct monitoring. Mono mode extends compatibility for streaming to social media.

Further, it comes with an extended version of a loopback function. Loopback+ allows users to select either or both channels 3 and 4 to route microphones or line-level signals to audio processing apps (MixBox, AmpliTube…) and route their outputs through the Loopback feature and into channels 1 and 2 going to their streaming app. Very useful to polish signal before it goes into the streaming world.

Additionally, you get a multichannel mode where the XLR mic/Hi-Z instrument and mic/line combo jacks or RCA / 3.5 mm stereo line inputs are routed to channels 1 to 4 respectively, giving users 4 channels of audio to send to recording apps such as GarageBand or any DAW. There is also a limiter on inputs 1 and 2.

In Stereo and Mono mode, inputs 3 and 4 can be used as safety channels: recording the same signal as input 1 and 2, but reduced by 12 dB as a backup in case the sound source unexpectedly overloads the main channels.

Free Software Bundle

The new IK Multimedia iRig Pro Quattro I/O includes a complete software bundle (Mac/PC) worth $/€450. Users get AmpliTube 5 SE with over 80 essential gear models for guitar and bass, and T-RackS 5 SE with 10 analog-modeled and digital processors. Plus, there’s the choice of 2 additional SE/CE titles. Choose from SampleTank, Miroslav Philharmonik, MODO BASS, MODO DRUM, or Syntronik 2.

And for iPhone/iPad, iRig Pro Quattro I/O includes over $/€100 of audio production apps including iRig Recorder 3 and MixBox for iPad.

At first look, an interesting new audio interface. The only thing that gives me a headache is the micro USB socket in times of USB-C.

IK IK Multimedia iRg Pro I/O is available now for 426,99 € and includes USB and lightning cables, batteries, and a ¼” thread camera adapter. The iRig Quattro I/O Deluxe will be available for pre-order for 548,99€ and ships end of June 2022.
