Ujam Finisher Fluxx is a multi-effects plug-in for PC / Mac that turns into a crazy sound processor without looking into the manual

The German-American software company Ujam has released many plugins in the past few years that offer a radically different concept. Instead of convincing customers of a huge feature list, Ujam plugins offer an absolute minimum of parameters but these have a big impact. The focus is on simplifying the music and sound design workflow and making it accessible to everyone.

With the Finisher Neo, the developers released the first plug-in in a new series of dead-simple multi-effects plugins just after NAMM 2020. Voodoo followed later. Finisher Fluxx is the third release and is a multi-effects processor that turns you into a mad sound scientist without studying a manual.

Ujam trusts the same concept and GUI design in the third plugin. A handful of macro controls adjust the sound character, ranging from subtle to completely crazy. How the plugin looks behind the macro controls remains a secret. Disclosing this would also destroy the concept of these dead-simple plugins. This is not about 100 different knobs but about 7 in total. These control the 50 different “hyper-complex” multi-effect chains called modes. You get 4 individual macro controls per mode, each controlling a separate sound aspect.

It features a wide range of different effects including delay, double tracking, reverb, phasing, reverb, and many more. FLUXX is described as an intuitive and fail-proof tool for sound designers and music producers to deconstruct, transform, and animate sounds. Ujam delivers the plug-in with 100 professionally designed presets that you can try out and tweak immediately. And no manual reading is necessary here, you only you should only know how to install a plugin and open it in your DAW.

Further, it provides full automaton and MIDI control support. Handy, if you switch through the 100 inspiring presets, you get always a little explication of how you can use the effect mode in your music. All in all, one can say that all Finisher products are a very smart series of multi-effects plugins. Perfect for musicians who prefer to focus on composing instead of dealing with the endless possibilities of sound design.

When I was in the US in January, I had the chance to interview Peter Gorges, CEO of Ujam at Hans Zimmer studios. We mainly talked about the future of plugins and what Ujam plugins do differently.
