Existential Audio Blackhole is the next generation free audio routing app with macOS Catalina support and is the successor of Soundflower
Every musician with a macOS computer knows the application Soundflower with which one can change and customize the internal routing of audio. With the new Blackhole app from the indie developer Existential Audio comes the next generation of audio routing app. Maybe also the successor of Soundflower and it’s for free.
As the development of Soundflower in recent years has not progressed, Blackhole could quickly take the place as the number one. Points that corroborate this are: it’s a free app downloadable from GitHub, up to 16 channels, sample rates up to 192 kHz, support for macOS 10.15 Catalina…
Blackhole (not the Eventide reverb) follows the same concept as Soundflower. The driver plugs into macOS’ core audio architecture and can support up to 16 channels. This number is extendable up to 256 channels via driver rebuild options with sample rates up to 192kHz, with no additional latency.
