Propellerhead Software Launched Complex-1 West-Coast Inspired Synthesizer For Reason!

Propellerhead Software Complex-1 is a heavy Buchla inspired Synthesizer for the Rack Extension format that brings west-coast synthesis to Reason 10!

Modular synthesis is one of the top themes in 2018 and one you can not miss. Eurorack, software etc., modular synthesis is represented everywhere. With the new Complex-1 Synthesizer, Propellerhead Software shows that other ways of modular synthesis can be used. Often soft modular synths are inspired on East-Coast designs (Moog…). The Complex-1 is a kind of Buchla Synthesizer for the Rack Extension format with which you can create these crazy sounds now in Reason 10.

An interesting move from PS to release a Buchla inspired synth for Reason because this brings a lot of new unusual sounds to this DAW. Also good to see is that the interface allows users to patch the synth directly without opening the backside of the synth. Is this only the beginning of a brand-new patching environment in Reason? I don’t know but it would be very cool! I’m very curious how Complex-1 sounds and if the developer team will release it in 2019 maybe as VST/AU plugin same as Europa Synth.

Overview

Complex-1 is a modular Synthesizer from Propellerhead Software, bringing the quirks, freedom and sonic depth of modular synthesis to your Reason Rack. Boasting a 4x oversampled synthesis engine, a freely routable signal and modulation path and a sound like nothing else, Complex-1 is a synth lover’s dream machine.

The modules in Complex-1 bring a mix of modular synth ideologies to the Reason Rack. The Complex Oscillator, Low Pass Gates and Shaper modules, build on the works on Don Buchla (or West Coast style) and the regular Oscillator and ladder design Filter module, derive more from the Bob Moog school of synth design. Combine them anyway you like and craft your very own unique synth sounds.

If you’re a seasoned modular synth enthusiast, you can dive right in. If this kind synth is new to you, it can look a bit daunting, but it’s actually surprisingly easy to get going. Load up any of the included patches to get you going, and start your sonic exploration there. Nothing can break, and if things go weird (like, in a bad way), there’s the undo button to your rescue.
