With the SH-01a, Roland released a digital emulation of the SH-101 analog Synthesizer in September. The question of the questions continues to be how good is the sound of this new boutique Synthesizer and how close it is to the analog brother. Design technically, Roland has already managed to pack the best known features into a much smaller form and still add new functionalities. The youtuber Machiwoomiapoo released this week an interesting video where he tries to find an answer to the sound question. He played in a video the vintage SH-101 analog Synthesizer & the new SH-01a Boutique synth and tweaked the important features of it.

In my opinion Roland has emulated the SH-101 very well and I can hear almost no differences. The emulation also has the 80s /90s Acid character as the original one and makes here a very good figure. One must not forget that the Sh-01a Synthesizer has some advances. First, you can play it with 4x polyphony and it’s far smaller than the original one. So it’s better to transport and use it on stages. I’m curious what other musicians think of it and whether people who have an original SH-101 would exchange it.
