United Plugins WideFire is a new, unique saturation plugin for macOS and Windows that is a free download for a limited time.
With the DarkFire plugin, United Plugins, in collaboration with JMG Sound, offers a saturation plugin with a twist. To sculpt the harmonics, a special algorithm allows the colored harmonics to be separated, shaped, and mixed back in later.
This algorithm is now available in a second plugin from JMG Sound called WideFire, which is a free download for a limited time.
United Plugins WideFire
WideFire is a new analog-style saturation plugin for macOS and Windows. It’s a stripped-down version of its flagship plugin, DarkFire, and follows its model’s audio processing concept.
First, United Plugins WideFire saturates your signals. Then, it detaches the added harmonics and applies a unique widening algorithm. Once done, it blends back with the original audio signal.
The developers promise that the plugin can achieve a wider, more immersive sound without sacrificing clarity or introducing unwanted artifacts. It also adds a sense of space and excitement to your tracks, bringing them to life.
WideFire works great on vocals, guitars, and synthesizers. Among other things, you can transform mono recordings into stereo tracks, or enhance the stereo image of any audio source with it.
The re-scalable user interface is super simple. It offers a big harmonics level knob that controls the level of processed signal added to the dry signal. Further, you get controls for the drive, highpass filter, and output level.
There is also a side-only switch, with which you can set WideFire to affect only the side part of the mid/side spectrum. Also onboard is a preset browser, an A/B compare function, and a redo/undo function.
United Plugins WideFire uses internal 64-bit audio processing and can handle any sampling rate, 192 kHz or even higher. The smart bypass function of the previous UP plugins is also onboard.
First Impression
It is an interesting saturation plugin for macOS and Windows, and now that it is free, you can certainly give it a try without hesitation.
United Plugins WideFire is available for free download until March 19, 2025 (reg. $29). It runs as a VST, VST3, AU, and AAX plugin on macOS (native Apple Silicon + Intel) and Windows. The plugin comes with lifetime free updates and can be upgraded to DarkFire.
