MOTU has updated its UltraLite series to Mk5 with new drivers, a new look, lots of I/O, and many smart functions such as loopback, internal DSP effects & more.

With their M2 and M4, MOTU has set the bar very high for compact and rock-solid USB-C audio interfaces. The success is there. Both interfaces are constantly sold out at retailers.

If these compact audio interfaces are not enough for you, you should pay attention now. MOTU has renewed its UltraLite series and is showing a very exciting device with the Mk5.

The UltraLite Mk5 features everything you need for a home recording studio or the stage. 2x mic/line/Hi-Z guitar inputs on the front, balanced 1/4-inch TRS inputs (6)/outputs (10) on the back, 1x optical in/out (ADAT or TOSLink) for additional I/O, 1x RCA S/PDIF digital in/out, 1x stereo headphone w/volume, and a MIDI in/out.

The new Mk5 series is powered by the renowned ESS Sabre32™ DAC technology, featuring the ES9026PRO DAC, to deliver measured 125 dB dynamic range and -114 dB THD+N. They also reworked the drivers that now deliver rock-solid performance and industry-leading low latency says MOTU.

Further, they promise an astonishing round trip latency (RTL) of 2.4 ms (milliseconds) over USB (at 96 kHz with a 32-sample host buffer). That sounds pretty solid. It also features built-in DSP effects like EQs, reverbs, and more controllable over the new CueMix 5 app.

Smart Functionalities

The UltraLite Mk5 also continues the functions of the M series. It’s a USB audio class-compliant interface, which means you can also use it with your iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch. It can easily be connected to the current iPad without an extra adapter because it has a USB-C connection. Perfect to record on the go directly to your iPad, or play backing tracks during a gig.

Thanks to the new CueMix 5 app, you can control the UltraLite Mk5 remotely. MOTU says:

CueMix 5 is a completely new app with attractive graphic mixing, graphic editing of parametric EQ, and a convenient touch-friendly interface for quick access to all mixing features, digitally controlled trims and other settings in your UltraLite-mk5.

MOTU has also thought of all the live streamers. The interface provides convenient loopback channels to your host computer or iOS device, so you can easily route computer output, along with a mix of live inputs from the UltraLite-mk5 itself, back to the computer, where you can record it back into your podcasting host software or stream it live to the internet. Perfect for streaming and podcasting.

Plus, the interface can also be rack-mounted

A very interesting interface that has a lot of I/O and small but nice extras that simplify the workflow for a fair price. The new Ultralite could be attractive for all bedroom producers who want to take the next step in music production.

MOTU UltraLite-mk5 is available now for 748€ and ships with a big software bundle including Performer Lite and hundreds of loops, and samples from Big Fish Audio, Lucidsamples & Loopmasters.
