NAMM 2026: Roland BOSS Effects Pedals plugin: new update adds three new legendary pedal recreations, bringing the total to 19 effects.

Roland has unveiled the CR-78 Software Rhythm Composer plugin ahead of NAMM 2026. There’s also some other news for Roland Cloud users.

At NAMM 2026, Roland is also expanding the BOSS Effects Pedals plugin with three new guitar models.

Roland BOSS Effects Pedals

The BOSS Effects Pedals plugin brings the authentic BOSS compact pedal experience to computer music production, delivering premium processing for guitar, bass, keyboards, vocals, and beyond.

The new update adds three new guitar pedal models: the DM-12 Delay, OD-2 TURBO OverDrive, and DC-2 Dimension C, bringing the total to 19.

According to Roland, they will continue to populate the plugin with more modeled models from the past in the coming updates.

It’s great that Roland has further expanded the plugin. It’s a shame you can still use only one effect per plugin instance.

The BOSS Effects Pedals plugin is available with a Roland Cloud Ultimate membership, which users can try for free with a 30-day all-access trial.

Update from August 27, 2025

In mid-May, Roland released the BOSS Effects Pedals plugin with the first eight models. Roland promised more models, and they’re keeping their word.

Roland has today released eight more models for its multi-FX Roland Cloud plugin for macOS and Windows.

Roland’s sister company, BOSS, is known to most musicians for its guitar pedals. The colored pedals, which originated back in 1977, are especially popular and have achieved legendary status.

As a Synthesizer user myself, I’ve even had one in my pedal arsenal for many years. More precisely, the Super Overdrive SD-1. Following their vintage synthesizers, Roland is now also emulating the pedals in the new BOSS Effects Pedals plugin.

The new BOSS Effects Pedals plugin is the newest member of the Roland Cloud ecosystem and is new multi-FX plugin for macOS and Windows.

Multi-FX in the sense that you have a plugin with many pedals, but you can only use one pedal per instance. I would prefer a plugin that lets you load multiple pedals at once.

Each pedal delivers the genuine sound and response of the pedal it’s based on, faithfully recreated by the same company that developed the original designs. The plugin offers a super easy-to-use interface that mirrors the hardware’s simple operation.

Extended features are also available, including input and output controls for dialing in levels and tempo sync for time-based effects.

The BOSS Effects Pedals plugin, in its first version, features eight of the most famous BOSS pedals:

  • OD-1 OverDrive
  • PH-1 Phaser
  • SP-1 Spectrum
  • SG-1 Slow Gear
  • CS-1 Compression Sustainer
  • TW-1 T Wah
  • SD-1 Super OverDrive
  • DS-1 Distortion

Roland promises that the core library will be expanded with more pedals in the future.

First Impression

I’m pleased to see that the Boss effects are now available in the DAW. It’s a shame you can’t load multiple effects into a single plugin instance.

The BOSS Effects Pedals plugin is available with a Roland Cloud Ultimate membership, which users can try for free with a 30-day all-access trial.

A free Roland Account provides access to a function-limited demo version of the plug-in for evaluation without requiring a membership.
