The Fieldstone Weaver Modular sampler module takes you on an endless sonic journey, allowing you to capture snapshots but without undoing them.
Samplers are usually known as larger hardware units with keys or pads. The sampling process is typically associated with a wide range of parameters. The Fieldstone Weaver is different. It’s a sampler housed in a mini pedal, with a single knob controlling the sampling.
The concept was so successful that it’s frequently sold out. Ok, Andrew Huang, who included the device in his Best of 2024, is also partly responsible for this higher interest. Now comes the Fieldstone Weaver Modular, the same concept but in Eurorack.
Fieldtone Weaver Modular
Weaver Modular is a new one-knob sampler module that takes the pedal version’s concept further by adding features like CV options. The Fieldstone Weaver Modular isn’t a classic sampler. It’s a tool that captures things you might otherwise forget too quickly.
Plus, it relies on chance, so many results are also based on happy accidents. Like in the pedal, the big mysterious Weaver knob is also the star of the module version.
Turn it, and it transforms two seconds of sound into hypnotic loops and evolving textures. It’s like an endless sonic journey that keeps going, never stopping.
The Weaver Modular, your travel companion on this journey, lets you capture memories of this trip in 2-second snippets from the built-in microphone or the input jack.
No Way Back
But there is no undo function, so no way back once a sound is captured, because every knob movement takes you forward and generates a new loop. They are stored in three loop slots (1, 2, and 3), each with a dedicated level control (new feature!).
With a dedicated switch, you can choose whether the engine turns your captured sample into a fluffly texture or into an energetic rhythm.
Then Fieldstone added three trigger outputs to the Weaver Modular, turning the device into a random rhythm generator. According to the developer, you don’t need to use the module’s sampling capabilities.
Additionally, you can trigger the recording start and the Weaver knob via CV, allowing you to keep replacing the sample whilst the loop continues to play. That sounds like a very fun feature.
Plus, it now has a switch to select between random and root-note sympathetic pitch playback. On the connection side, it has an input and a stereo output on two 3.5mm mono sockets.
First Impression
I can understand why this pedal became such a success. It’s original and constantly inspiring, as you’re always looking for new sounds to sample. Combined with a radio, for example, gives you an endless stream of possible sounds.
It’s great to see this now coming to the Eurorack world, and even with some extra nice features special for the modular workflow.
Fieldtone Weaver Modular is now available for pre-order at $319/£240 in three colors.
