Adam Szabo Airwave is a new, authentic Roland JP-8080 Synthesizer emulation for Windows, with hardware patch compatibility.

The Roland JP-8000/JP-8080, released in 1998, is one of the synth stars of the year 2025. It remains one of Roland’s most popular digital synthesizers, primarily due to its legendary Supersaw waveform.

The reason this synth is in such focus this year is due to the many emulations. It started in March with the discoDSP Corona 6, which can read JP-8000 patches. Other companies followed this: Arturia Jup-8000V, Rob Jackson ANALOGySAW (supersaw synth), and then Impact Soundworks Chro-Nyx.

Then, The Usual Suspects team will soon release the JE-8086, a free chip emulator capable of playing the firmware of the Roland JP-8080. If you don’t have enough Roland JP-8000 emulations, here comes the next one, which will probably conclude the year.

Adam Szabo, developer of the Viper synth, has released Airwave, another authentic emulation of Roland’s 1998 digital Supersaw Synthesizer.

According to the developer, its synthesis architecture has been meticulously recreated and modeled to capture the depth and nuance of the original instrument.

Airwave features the same features, including dual timbrality, two oscillators with the Supersaw waveform, multimode filter, three envelopes (pitch, mod, amp), two LFOs, and multi-FX processors.

The latter includes tone control, delay, and reverb. It also features a built-in arpeggiator.

Unlike the emulations from Arturia or Impact Soundworks, Airwaves has no additional features beyond the original feature set. So there’s no sequencer, no extra waveforms, and a souped-up modulation engine.

However, it offers hardware patch compatibility, allowing you to import batch banks from the original synth.

First Impression

Another great-sounding Roland JP-8080 emulation. There is one drawback to this plugin: like all other Adam Szabo plugins, it lacks macOS or Linux support. It’s a real shame that this user group is being left out.

Adam Szabo Airwave is now available for 69€. It runs as a 32-bit and 64-bit VST and VST3 plugin on Windows. No Mac compatibility planned.

  1. I pray and hope one day that his wrapper tool supports Mac. Windows only is such a bummer. I have been patiently waiting. 😩
