OBNE Sunlight Stereo is a stereo version of its unique, wild, textured Sunlight modulation reverb pedal with added features.

Some of you may remember that two years ago, I reviewed the Old Blood Noise Endeavors Sunlight pedal. This is a reverb pedal with a very unique, experimental character. One downside I noted was that it’s only a mono pedal and thus not ideal for synths with stereo outs.

Today, good news from the developers comes. OBNE has released the Sunlight Stereo, a stereo pedal of its unique reverb pedal with various additions.

Sunlight Stereo is the stereo version of Old Blood Noise Endeavors (OBNE), a uniquely flavored modulated reverb pedal.

Like the original, it sends its reverb through a short delay, a filter, and a volume. For movement, it has an LFO that can modulate any or even all of those available parameters.

The unusual signal path and the added modulation create a distinctive sound that goes beyond reverb, with flanging, chorusing, moving filters, and tremolo tones. I really liked that texture in the mono version.

Sunlight Stereo features dedicated hardware knobs for dry/wet mix, dynamics, decay length, delay time, feedback, filter frequency, envelope functionality, and more. Plus, it has destination controls for the built-in LFO.

A new parameter, dynamics control, introduces moving elements into the reverb, such as LFO variation based on signal strength at lower settings.

Sunlight Stereo features a low-noise floor and an analog-dry-through signal path. Nice —you can choose between buffered trails and true bypass modes.

Connectivity

On the back, it has stereo inputs and outputs, with the option to route mono-in to stereo-out. Then, it has TRS 3.5mm MIDI in and out sockets, giving you various controls.

This includes MIDI control over all parameters, preset switching, and MIDI clock in/out support for external tempo switching. Next to this is a USB-C port for firmware updates and an expression input, unlocking expression playability.

There is also a customizable AUX footswitch for momentary or latching effects, like tap tempo, infinite sustain, reverb hold or preset switching.

First Impression

It’s great to see that the Sunlight is now available in an expanded stereo version. The original mono version made a very positive impression, so perhaps I’ll get to test it in stereo.

OBNE Sunlight Stereo is available now in the US for $299. The Europe batch is coming soon.
