AAS Lounge Lizard EP-5 is a major upgrade for its physical modeling e-piano plugin, featuring a new dual engine, additional controls, a revamped sound browser, and more.

There are many different ways to create virtual electric pianos. A multi-sample method is often found in many plugins and sample libraries for Kontakt, Falcon, and other similar platforms. You can also use the somewhat lighter approach on the drive, focusing on pure synthesis. More precisely, physical modeling synthesis.

One of the well-known ones is the Lounge Lizard EP-4 from the Canadian company Applied Acoustics Systems. Today, AAS has released Lounge Lizard EP-5, a major upgrade for its virtual e-piano with many new features.

AAS Lounge Lizard EP-5

The Lounge Lizard EP-5 continues the physical modeling electric piano plugin and brings it up to date for the year 2025. For this purpose, AAS has completely redesigned the engine in the Lounge Lizard EP-5.

It now fully houses a dual-engine engine that features dedicated models for tine-based and reed-based pianos, offering unmatched realism, warmth, and expressiveness.

Like the EP-4, the Lounge Lizard EP-5’s unique feature is that it’s an electric piano Synthesizer. The developers modeled all the elements of two distinct electric pianos using physical modeling synthesis. Custom pianos can be created with just a few tweaks.

Part of this new dual engine is the built-in effects. You can find all the effects from the previous version like EQ, delay, distortion, flanger, wah wah, delay, reverb, vintage chorus, and more.

Additionally, the Lounge Lizard EP-5 features a new guitar amplifier with three distinct modes: hot, bright, and normal, with various tweakable parameters. In this new effect, you can find a two-mode cabinet and a spring reverb.

Redesigned GUI & Sound Browser

Once opened, you’ll notice another new feature. AAS has completely redesigned the GUI in the Lounge Lizard EP-5. There is now a dedicated UI for each piano type: a red one for the reed and a black one for the tine.

Further, you can work with a redesigned sound browser with a built-in search function.  Anyone familiar with AAS plugins will be familiar with the sound browser. One advantage over the old version is that the sound expansions are now clearly displayed.

Lounge Lizard EP‑5 also features an all-new factory library with over 150 electric piano sounds, organized into three distinct packs: classic tine-based pianos, classic reed-based pianos, and custom instruments.

These are created by professional keyboardists and showcase the expanded tonal range and expressive possibilities of the new piano engines. As a bonus, every sound from the Lounge Lizard EP-4 has been carefully reviewed and remastered to take full advantage of the new e-piano engines, giving you 242 additional presets at your fingertips.

First Impression

Whenever I need electric pianos, I’ve been instantly turning to the Lounge Lizard plugin for many years. The reason is the engine’s versatility, which allows me to craft even very unusual electric pianos. I am pleased to see that the LL is now up to version 5.

AAS Lounge Lizard EP-5 is available now for an introductory price of $149 instead of $199. Lounge Lizard EP-5 PACKS with three expansions is on sale for $185 instead of $249. Existing Lounge Lizard EP-4 users can upgrade for $49 instead of $79 for a limited time. The expansion packs are now on sale for $19, down from $39.

It runs standalone and as a VST, VST3, AU, and AAX plugin on macOS and Windows. The plugin also supports NKS.
