Winter Modular announced the discontinuation of its modules with major price drops, including a new open-source Eloquencer 1.4 firmware.

Superbooth 2025 is just around the corner. It’s supposed to be the perfect time for new announcements. But now there’s rather sad news. Winter Modular, the Spanish company and developers of the Eloquencer, have announced that their modules will go out of production.

Alongside this news, they dropped the prices of all modules, and the Eloquencer just got a new open-source firmware 1.4.

According to Eloi and Marta, they will not produce any more units of their modules in the upcoming years, including the Eloquencer, Winter Plankton Zaps, and others.

Good, they will not go out of business, but they are just wrapping up this chapter. They promise support and warranty coverage for all existing and new users of their modules.

Additionally, they announced price drops on all Winter Modular products with discounts starting at 20% and up to 30% for bundles. These price drops are available in the official shop. If you are still interested in one of these modules, now is your best and last chance to get one.

Eloquencer 1.4 Firmware

There’s also some interesting news. A new firmware version 1.4 for the Eloquencer sequencer module, with added features, is now available for download and will soon be available open-source.

A lovely idea, not to let the module die completely, but to give it a second life and allow the open-source developer community to continue it.

As a reminder, the Eloquencer boasts eight tracks of CV and gate signals, each with 16 steps, with the ability to chain patterns together, making the longest loop 256 steps. The new firmware 1.4 adds some exciting new creative features to the sequencer engine.

First, you can explore new step modifiers, allowing you to define conditions for when steps are active (e.g., depending on previous events, track dependencies, X/Y ratios in loops, etc.). Modifiers can trigger different actions, including activating/muting gates, pitch transposing, and more.

Then, it includes new pattern reset types and a new option to change the patterns at the next step or the end of a pattern. There is also an option to set the part change at the end of the part or the end of the pattern.

The new firmware 1.4 also introduces new live mono and poly recording modes, a gate delay function for CV recording, and the ability to link two Eloquencers and an EME module. Other new features are:

  • new CV input assignments: next/previous pattern, next/previous part, pattern change, step mode…
  • step edition modes: CV probability, ratchet randomization, multistep proportional editing…
  • tap tempo improvement
  • 24 PPQN clock output added
  • increased internal maximum pattern length to 64 steps
  • oscillator calibration tool:
  • and more

Further, it ships with more improvements and various bug fixes. The full change log is available here on GitHub.

First Impression

After eight years on the market, it’s okay to let a sequencer module be phased out. That’s understandable. Sad, but I’m glad the developers are keeping Eloquencer alive thanks to the open-source firmware. I’m excited to see where the new directions will lead WM.

The Winter Modular modules are available now on the official website. The new firmware version 1.4 is now available on GitHub.
