Rides In The Storm SED-CSM module is now available: a two-oscillator, 36HP analog synth voice with wavefolding for Eurorack.

Superbooth 25 is around the corner. Besides waiting for new product drops, it’s always great to see if products announced last year are already available. Currently, many are still in development.

Rides In The Storm, the company of former MFB employee Uwe Gieger, announced the SED-CSM analog voice back in 2023. It took a while, but it’s finally available.

The SED-CSM is a pre-wired 36HP analog discrete synth voice with two oscillators, with highly stable tracking and a wide range of controls. Each voice offers coarse and fine-tune controls, pulse-width, and routable modulation.

Both oscillators are supported by three analog sub-oscillators (3/4, 1/2, and 1/4 with SQUARE, SAW, and TRI), as well as white noise. Three subs are quite a lot and unusual for a classic synth voice.

Additionally, you can shape the oscillators by adding hard sync, tweaking the gravity knob or working with wavefolding on oscillator one or XOR ring modulation. Wavefolder and RM are neat additions, bringing more metallic timbres into play. FM is also possible.

Then, the signals go into a vintage-style slider-based mixer with a dedicated RM slider and external input control. The filter is a discrete 24 dB low-pass filter with a built-in overdrive circuit for additional bite. Cutoff, resonance, filter key tracking, and modulation give you hands-on control over the filter.

On the modulation side, you get two wide-range analog LFOs (one also usable as a VCO) with key tracking for tonal playability. It also hosts two super-fast and punchy analog ADSR envelopes with loop functions. Plus, you get four glide presets.

Rides In The Storm SED-CSM is a Eurorack module for modular synths, and they thrive on CV connectivity. You’ll find it here, too. The CV inputs are distributed at the top and bottom of the module. There are dedicated CV controls for each oscillator, cutoff, resonance, VCA, and more.

It also has various CV outputs, including trigger outs for the envelope attack and decay stage, both LFOs, and more. On the audio side, you get outputs for every sound function: both oscillators, RM, noise, mix, VCF, and main out. There is also an external input.

It’s great to see the SED-CSM synth voice finally on the market. It’s a characterful, powerful-sounding voice with a lot of functionality. I like a lot that it’s not just a synth voice, but also a module with plenty of I/O, allowing you to use many functions independently. So you aren’t limited to the synth voice.

Rides In The Storm SED-CSM is available now for 522€.
