Korg Module and Module Pro v5 is a free update that adds the new Osaka acoustic drum kit gadget to both apps.

One of the most popular electronic music iOS apps is Korg Gadget. The counterpart to the Gadget app is the Korg Module/Module Pro app, which focuses more on acoustic and traditional sounds. Don’t forget you can also use these instruments in the Gadget app.

In 2020, the app took the most significant step with version 4, bringing the long-awaited AUv3 support for individual gadget instruments. Korg Module v5 is now available for download and is a free update for the free and Pro versions.

As a reminder, Module v5 and Module Pro v5 are apps that offer a collection of ready-to-use virtual instruments for iOS.

Unlike in Korg Gadget, the focus here is not on synthesizers but on classic instruments packed in six dedicated sound engines: acoustic piano, electric piano, clav, organ, multi, and hybrid.

The free Module version is an appetizer with a few nice sounds. The Pro version gives you then the full suite of virtual instruments, which are also AUv3 plugin-ready on iOS. If that’s not enough, you can also purchase new sounds via IAP in the app.

The new Korg Module v5 and Module Pro v5 are free updates that add some great features to the apps. First, both apps benefit from a new drum module, Osaka, offering 12 professional-recorded drum sounds.

According to Korg, each instrument offers up to eight velocity layers and round-robin samples per layer, guaranteeing high authenticity. It’s neat that you can also use the new Osaka drum kit in Korg Gadget as an instrument gadget.

Korg also released a new expansion sound library, Wild Kits, for Osaka, which can be purchased in-app. In addition, they expanded the app’s maximum polyphony to 256 voices. However, increasing the polyphony may cause noise on certain devices, depending on their performance.

Besides this, the new Korg Module v5 apps have various other tweaks that improve the stability.

First Impression

It’s great to see that Korg Module development continues and that it’s a free update that includes a new instrument. Thanks Korg.

The new Korg Module v5 and Module Pro v5 are available now as free updates. The new Wild Kits sound expansion is available for 9,99€. Korg has placed Module Pro v5 and the expansions on sale with a 50% discount to celebrate this release.
