According to the Zeeland-West-Brabant court, Bax Music, a Dutch online music tech retailer, files for bankruptcy.

Last week, it was announced that the famous Brighton-based music retailer and online shop GAK had ceased operation. According to the information, the company and brand are up for sale. Now, a second company has been hit.

Another well-known music tech retailer has closed its doors. According to the Zeeland-West Brabant court, Dutch online music tech retailer Bax Music files for bankruptcy. By the way, this isn’t an April fool; otherwise, it would be a very bad one.

Bax Music

Bax Music

It’s a well-known brand in the European music retailer sphere. In addition to its online presence, the company operates six physical stores in the Netherlands and Belgium. Bax Music employs more than 300 people and is well-known not only in the Netherlands and Belgium.

Due to its proximity to the UK and Germany, many customers from neighboring countries have also ordered from here in recent times.

The news reached the industry this morning. According to the Dutch newspaper, De Telegraaf, Bax Music has been declared bankrupt by the Zeeland-West-Brabant court.

Reports say that the company has struggled with financial difficulties in recent years, owing debts to various creditors, including the Dutch Tax Authority.  Although shops worldwide made big sales, the COVID-19 pandemic has also financially hurt Bax Music. Plus, a fire in 2023 damaged many musical instruments at a facility.

If you browsed the online shop over the past few days, you’d notice that many items were unavailable. There were also frequent discounts on leftovers.

According to company sources, the current owner, Jochanan Bax, has expressed interest in restarting the company. NLtimes reports that there are potential investors that have shown interest:

Following the initial request for suspension of payments, he stated that he was working toward a relaunch, adding that investors had shown interest in supporting such a move.

The end seems to have come suddenly, as new videos were uploaded to YouTube just a few days ago.

Future?

Whether and how things will continue with Bax Music is uncertain. One thing is sure: the court has declared the company insolvent. If you google Bax Music company, the website is offline, and Google says it is permanently closed.

This also means that more than 300 employees will lose their jobs. One can only hope they will find new jobs as quickly as possible or be able to work there again when the company returns. Everything is currently uncertain. If the closure remains, it would be a shame for the music tech market, which would lose a major player.

  1. Such sad news for the industry and all the people who work there. I worked in a small record shop that went into administration and it’s such a horrible thing to go through.

  2. Very interesting: I predicted this a while back and stated it on the pro synth network Facebook page just two days ago. I was sent about 2 months ago a discount code for 20% on anything in the shop. When I looked there was hardly any stock and basically nothing to buy.

  4. I mainly had bad experience with BAX. In the headquarters located in Goes, Netherlands I waited several times a long time to get my paid gear. The stuff seemed not very experienced with easy all day check out processes. Also there were parts missing in the box. So I stopped buying from BAX and enjoy the perfect service at Thomann. Sorry guys but you had your chances.

    • Same here I’m afraid. Bad communication overall, sloppy shipping. Even caught them lying one time when I had ordered quite an expensive piece of mastering equipment that should’ve been in stock according to their website. Bax kept stalling and then blamed the manufacturer for being late. However, I had already been in contact with that manufacturer before and when I checked in he showed me the shipping confirmation. Turned out it had arrived at Bax within the planned time frame, but they had lost the shipment internally. It took them 2 months to recover it.

I also know someone who had worked at Bax and she told me it was a dreadful employer. Nevertheless I am sorry for those who will now lose their job.

  5. Sad news but it explains why I have received no news about the mixer I returned because it broke after 2 months.
I guess I have little chance of getting a refund or the mixer back so will have to reinvest elsewhere.
