Pittsburgh Modular has announced deals for Black Friday with up to 30% OFF on Voltage Lab 2 and Taiga Keyboard analog synthesizers.
Black Friday is in one day, and the big sale is already in full swing. Software deals dominate yearly because these goods are virtual, so it’s easier to offer 60 or 80% discounts. But there are also solid hardware deals that you can look up on my dedicated list.
Pittsburgh Modular, not famous for big discounts, is now participating surprisingly with deals in the Black Friday madness and offering significant discounts on two of its latest hardware synthesizers.
Pittsburgh Modular Deals
There are price drops for Black Friday on two Pittsburgh Modular products. First, the Voltage Lab 2 was initially announced at Superbooth 24. Second, the Taiga Keyboard from the beginning of the year.
However, both Pittsburgh Modular deals are only available for a limited time, and the prices will return to regular after expiration.
Pittsburgh Modular Voltage Lab 2
Voltage Lab 2, a product released during Superbooth 24, is on sale for £1,249.00/1499€ instead of 2149€ (2139€). That’s a whopping 30% discount and much less than the regular price. One thing is certain: for this limited-time best price, you can’t even get the Voltage Lab 2 second-hand.
People who have been eyeing the synth since the Superbooth 24 should think twice about it now. It probably won’t get any cheaper. The regular price of 2149€ is a bit high and puts the synth at the flagship modular level. Now at 1499€, it is somewhat more affordable.
The Voltage Lab 2 offers a lot for the sale price. Regarding features, it is a semi-modular Synthesizer but provides the scope of a fully modular system. This is especially true because every function in the Voltage Lab 2 has dedicated inputs and outputs, making it very flexible.
Feature highlights are
- two Laboratory “east/west-coast” oscillators with wave folding circuits
- ring mod, FM, bit-crushing, and hard-sync
- no filters but two vactrol-inspired dynamic controllers
- two flexible function generators with trigger conditions
- two analog effects: flanging/chorus and BBD delay
- modular utilities: mixer for audio and CV signals, LFO, splitters,
- noise generator and S&H circuits
- dual-channel, 16-note performance touch controller and sequencer with 8 simultaneous outputs per channel (notes or modulation)
- generative modes, humanizing, and more
- assignable key and scale modes with microtonal scales up to 32 EDO
- arpeggiator and robust chance sequencer
- and more.
Voltage Lab 2 is not a simple semi-modular Synthesizer but a true synthesis/sound laboratory that invites you to experiment.
In terms of operation, a Moog Mother 32, Behringer Neutron/Proton, is much more inviting for beginners; this one goes much deeper into the modular concept and what you can do with waves and voltages. You can read more about Voltage Lab 2 in my Superbooth article.
Pittsburgh Modular Taiga Keyboard
The Taiga Keyboard is the second synth in the Pittsburgh Modular deals for Black Friday.
It was released in March 2024 and is available now for 999€ instead of 1359€. Shortly before Black Friday, the price dropped to 1169€ at European retailers, so we considered this price. It’s a 15% price drop or 25% off the MSRP, a significant discount.
The Taiga Keyboard is, as the name suggests, the keyboard version of the Taiga. The desktop Taiga fits seamlessly into the recent wave of semi-modular synthesizers, but it is one of the most playful and feature-rich.
The keyboard version offers almost the same features as the desktop version. Three “hybrid coast” oscillators, custom Pittsburgh multimode filter… But there are differences. One is the much larger user interface with more space for your fingers. The difference is very noticeable, and programming is more fun.
Unlike the desktop, the Taiga Keyboard comes with two new full-range oscillators with dedicated coarse and fine-tune pitch controls. An exclusive feature is a second analog LFO, which gives you three LFOs (digital one included) in total. Also, the analog bucket brigade delay/echo is onboard.
A highlight of the keyboard is the 24HP slot on the right side for inserting Eurorack modules. This gives you the ability to expand the Taiga keyboard engine with new oscillators, filters, effects, or even sequencers. This makes the keyboard version much more comprehensive and versatile.
You can read my article here from the official release in March.
Deal Or Not
Yes, the Pittsburgh Modular deals on Black Friday are excellent. Anyone who already had their eye on the devices at the beginning of the year or at Superbooth 24 now has a great opportunity to get them for a lot less.
I would recommend the Taiga Keyboard for people who like it more hands-on and classic but with innovative twists here and there. The Voltage Lab 2 is for people who want to immerse themselves entirely in Richard Nicol’s synthesis vision. It is a deep synthesis laboratory in which you can have fun for a long time.
The Pittsburgh Modular deals are available now until December 2, 2024. Voltage Lab 2 is on sale for $1499,99/1499€/£1,249.00 instead of 2139€, and Taiga 2 Keyboard for $999/999€ instead of 1169€ (MSRP 1359€).
