NAMM 2024: Noise Engineering has expanded its Alia oscillator platform with three new modules/firmware: Ataraxic, Cursus, and Incus Iteritas
For a long time, digital in Eurorack was seen as “uncool.” Since it was often associated to the display, menu diving, computer, etc. Well, we are in 2024, and digital technology can be cool and hands-on too. See the Noise Engineering platforms, where you can easily swap algorithms.
In October 2023, they unveiled the Alia platform, which specializes in unique oscillators. Here, the beloved Basimulius also made a comeback. For NAMM 2024, they introduced three additional powerful Alia oscillator algorithms.
Noise Engineering Alia
Three new alternative firmware versions for the Noise Engineering Alia oscillator platform modules: Ataraxic Iteritas, Cursus Iteritas, and Incus Iteritas. As usual, users of an Alia module can download all three algorithms for free and flash them on their modules.
All three new oscillator algorithms are also available in separate modules with the corresponding faceplate design. They offer different, wild oscillator ideas that sonically expand the Alia platform nicely.
Ataraxic Iteritas Alia is a code based on the Ataraxic Translatron but beefed up with a sub-oscillator and performable hold button. It offers AM, wavefolding, distortion, and more. It gives you subby basses, metallic drones, unrelentingly digital timbres, and more.
Cursus Iteritas Alia is a new Noisy Engineering-style wavetable oscillator mode with three modes (Fourier, Daubechies, and Walsh) and spectral-like controls. It is described as a very musical and wide-range oscillator. There is also a sub-oscillator for adding low-end to a patch.
The third and last one is Incus Iteritas Alia. It smashes big and bold sounds into your sounds, promises Noise Engineering. It’s an experimental percussion voice that is capable to create classic kicks but also wilder timbres, including FM plucks, analog-style basslines, and more.
Incus uses a combination of waveshaping, saturation, wavefolding, FM, and additive synthesis, plus a slew of internal modulation.
First Impression
These are once again beautiful new wild algorithms. I think it’s time to screw an Alia or two into my rack too. All I’m saying is: let it rain algorithms for all the NE platforms.
The Noise Engineering Alia modules Ataraxic, Cursus, and Incus Iteritas are available now for $385 each. The new firmware versions are available as a free download from the NE website for existing Alia users.
