Walrus Audio has released the Fundamental, a new series of budget effects pedals, including multi-voice chorus, delay, distortion, reverb, and more.

In the last three weeks, I have tested three different pedals from Walrus Audio: SLÖ reverb, ARP-87 delay, and the SLÄRP special edition pedal consisting of SLÖ and ARP-87. Three pedals with lots of functions.

For the NAMM 2023, they have now taken a step backward in terms of features and presented the Fundamental pedals. These are dead-simple pedals with a unique layout.

The Fundamental is a new series of very budget-friendly effect pedals. They have one thing in common: a mono signal path, compact and all-operable with horizontal sliders—an interesting decision to use sliders instead of knobs.

There are eight different Fundamental effects

Press Release

  • Chorus is a digital emulation of a classic bucket-brigade analog chorus with three types of chorus algorithms (light, classic, mid+) from gentle modulation up to 80’s tri-chorus.
  • Delay is a classic delay pedal with three delay algorithms (digital, analog, reverse). You can go from clean digital feedback to an analog delay emulation, as well as reversing your trails.
  • Reverb has three reverb algorithms, including an ambient hall, an analog-style spring emulation, as well as a bright plate emulation.

  • Distortion is a 3-mode distortion covering a wide range of sounds from dark and doom through sharp cutting leads.
  • Drive is a versatile overdrive with three different flavors, including smooth, crunch, and bright
  • Fuzz is a three-mode aggressive fuzz pedal with gate, classic, and mid+ modes
  • Tremolo is a classic optical tremolo, giving you that iconic chewy movement. With three wave shapes to select from, you can get sounds from smooth and soothing to glitchy, wild, and crazy.
  • Phaser is a versatile digital emulation of a classic phaser with three types of phaser algorithms. You get sounds ranging from light tonal modulation to a highly modulated and resonant phaser.

First Impression

The new Fundamental pedals look very classic. But I find them fascinating because they offer something fresh with their horizontal sliders and the three modes make them more versatile.

Walrus Audio Fundamental pedals are available soon and are starting at $99/109€
