TAL-Vocoder 3.0, free vocoder plugin with new features and UI

Togu Audio Line has updated its popular free TAL-Vocoder plugin to version 3.0 with new features (routing options…) and a new UI.

What would many young music producers do without free plugins? I do not want to know. But they have given many producers an affordable way into the world of music production.

The Swiss developer Togu Audio Line (TAL) has a large share, offering many plugins for free that professional music producers also work with. In its portfolio, you can find synths, effects, and a versatile free vocoder plugin. Version 3 of the vocoder is now available with great new features

TAL-Vocoder 3.0

The new 3.0 version of the TAL-Vocoder remains a free plugin and a vintage-style vocoder with 11 bands. It is capable of producing the sound of vocoders from the early ’80s. It’s based on a mixture of analog-modeling components and new digital algorithms to re-creates the vocoder sound.

The plugin includes a synth with an oscillator (VCO) (pulse, saw, sub, noise) to create classic analog waveforms and, thus, carrier signals with many overtones.

Version 3 features new carrier and modulator volume controls with a built-in meter for more precise control over the signal. Then, Togu Audio Line expanded the routing possibilities with a new sidechain option. This makes the plugin more versatile and flexible

Also onboard is a new, improved UI that is fully scalable and comes with a built-in preset browser. It looks tidier and more modern. Great update. Besides this, you can benefit from a lot of improvements and fixes.

There is one downer. According to TAL, the new version is not 100% backward compatible. For example, they removed the input mode routing with the L and R channel. They replaced it with new sidechain routing possibilities.

First Impression

A nice feature update for the free TAL Vocoder plugin. Very welcome that the plugin is still constantly updated and free.

Togu Audio Line TAL-Vocoder 3.0 is available now as a free download. It runs as a 64-bit VST, VST3, AU, and AAX plugin on macOS (Intel + native Apple Silicon), Linux, and Windows.
