Air Music Tech has turned the Akai MPC/Force Drumsynth engine into a DAW plugin in VST, VST3, AU, and AAX plugin for macOS and Windows.

With the MPC series and the Force, Akai has a very successful groove machine lineup on the market. The built-in content, which is constantly being expanded, is one of the key points for this success. Air Music Tech, which is also part of the inMusic group, is mainly responsible for the instrument and effect content.

The engines they develop for the hardware aren’t unique to the MPC or Force hardware. Selling twice is more lucrative, says inMusic. Thus many of the engines are now also available as VST plugins. The latest addition is the Drumsynth engine, which can now also be used in your favorite DAW

The popular drumsynth engine is now available as a plugin for macOS and Windows. The features are identical to the hardware version. An advanced multi-synth sound generator is at the heart of the Drumsynth drum designer combining various synthesis methods.

  • 8 individual instrument engines/parts: kick, snare, clap, percussion, tom, crash, hi-hat, and ride
  • wide range of sound generators: FM synthesis, analog-style and physical modeling, and sample-based algorithms
  • Sound-shaping FX, including transient shaper, tuning, EQ, compression, delay, reverb, and more
  • dedicated mixer with independent controls
  • classic “one-shot” feature
  • 52 ready-to-use preset kits from classics to new creations

First Impression

It’s great that the popular Drumsynth engine from the MPC and Force hardware is now available as a plugin for the DAW. But I think it’s a shame that Air Music Tech doesn’t offer Akai hardware users a special crossgrade discount or the plugins as a free download. So the integration of hardware and software would be perfect.

Air Music Tech Drumsynth is available now for an introductory price of 39€ instead of 99€. It runs as a VST, VST3, AU, and AAX plugin on macOS (Intel + native Apple Silicon) and Windows.

  1. Now with the profit, maybe they can hire more developers to fix all the bugs on the MPC/Force and add VST3 support to the MPC Software 🙂

  2. Nice work Akai/Air

However…. I love my MPC one but I’m with the folks who say vst 3 support asap please….. Or even better let’s go for clap….

I also really need a native Linux driver for my MPC as I now run BITWIG on Linux which works way more efficiently than windows and MPC is the only hardware/software that doesn’t work on Linux….. In the future I will only be investing in kit from companies that support Linux and I am in no way a Linux fanboy geek…. I just wanna get the most from my hardware and I want reliable audio on my pc as well as my Mac.
