Tasty Chips Electronics published today on Facebook a preview of the upcoming Kickstarter campaign for the GR-1 hardware granular synthesizer. The GR-1 will be a hardware polyphonic granular Synthesizer with high-quality audio, intuitive interface and lot of possibilities.

The campaign will start very soon and it will be available for around 800€.

Introduction

The GR-1 is a hardware polyphonic granular synthesizer in a class of its own. The GR-1 is capable of creating textures, characteristic sounds, drones, soundscapes, pads etc. with the help of your creativity! A sample and a few knob tweaks are enough to create something beautiful!

Unique and powerful

The GR-1 is a unique granular synthesizer. Why? It is a hardware, polyphonic synthesizer with high quality (32 bit, 44.1kHz) audio. Internal and external memory (USB) offers huge storage capacity. We used high quality components in a sturdy aluminum casing

Connectivity:

The GR-1 can be controlled via MIDI (USB/DIN) or be used standalone. Update firmware, load samples or save (and load) patches/performances to your USB disk or internal memory. The GR-1 has CV and gate options to connect easily with your (eurorack) modular setup.

Easy to use

The GR-1 has an intuitive interface and not only usable in the studio, but also very usable for live performances. It is great for drones, sound design, film scoring, beat making and composing.

Performance

Performances and patches can easily and directly be saved, loaded and copied.
There are 4 banks of 8 overwritable preset buttons, within a performance. This means you can save 32 presets, each with different samples in a single performance. You can save as many performances as your USB disk can store! Samples cost almost no time to load or save.

Finally a developer discovered that it’s an excellent idea to release a granular Synthesizer also as hardware unit. After the Bastl Instruments Micro Granny, it becomes calm and many developers released budget analog synths than instrument with a more interesting way to create new sounds. I’m super happy to see this project and I hope they will release it. Pretty sure that they will find many potential customers for it.

My wishes for this device are:

  • easy sample import
  • multiple samples at onces
  • layering
  • direct feedback
