Soundmachines Artinoise re.ceiver is a new Bluetooth to MIDI and CV Interface for playing your modular synths with wind instruments (re.corder…).
The re.corder from the Italian company Artinoise is a modern take on a classic soprano recorder. It is not comparable to classic wooden ones because it is hybrid (acoustic + digital). For example, digital sensors detect the position of the fingers and turn them into notes. Built-in Bluetooth that transmits MIDI over the air is also onboard – so it’s also a Bluetooth MIDI controller.
As a bonus, it ships with an interactive app for learning and making sounds. One of the heads behind Artinoise is Davide Mancini from Soundmachines, who, among other things, developed the analog engine of the UNO synths and various Eurorack modules. With a new re.ceiver interface, he now brings the re.corder into the modular world.
Soundmachines Artinoise re.ceiver
Artinoise re.ceiver is a new Bluetooth to MIDI and CV interface, allowing you to connect your re.corder to it and play your modular synth with a wind instrument. According to Soundmachines, it also works with other Bluetooth MIDI controllers and keyboards, not only with the re.corder.
If you use the re.corder with the interface, the setup is dead simple. You have to press a button to play and modulate your patches with motion.
The interface can output various modular signals. In addition to pitch and gate, it transmits CV for motion (inclination and rotation) and breath. This gives you new ways to animate/modulate your parameters.
It also has a MIDI output, allowing you to connect it to other non-modular synths.
First Impression
This is an exciting new way to control Eurorack synths. The combination of re.corder and re. receiver will probably only appeal to a very small group of musicians who use Eurorack synths, but it’s nice and welcome that such ideas exist.
Soundmachines Artinoise re.ceiver is available now for 199€. The Artinoise re.corder is out now for 149€ in various colors.

Got a re.ceiver a few years ago. Had pledged for one at the same time as the re.corder, though it took longer to get out.
My Eurorack system is quite minimal, so I haven’t used the re.ceiver extensively. It does work well as a way to get CV from breath and gestures. Latency is decent. Still, it’s a bit strange to send CV signal over Bluetooth in that it defeats some of the purposes of having CV instead of MIDI, in terms of latency and responsiveness.
By the way, the re.corder isn’t “fully” digital since you can also play it as an acoustic instrument. Just to make sure that’s clear. (It’s different from most other wind controllers.)
Hi Alex! The re.ceiver is not receiving any CV from the re.corder, actually it generates them from the CCs and the other MIDI infos sent from the re.corder to the re.ceiver. This is why you can also use it with other BLE-MIDI controller, just set the CCs you want to use to the ones the re.corder uses and you are ready to go
