FRMS from the Portuguese company Imaginando is a multi-layer (4-layer) multi-engine Synthesizer for macOS and Windows. Each of the four layers can host either a sample or oscillator generator. They offer granular sample playback, FM with eight modes, additive, and classic subtractive synthesis.
The granular engine supports up to 20 grains per layer. Cool, it granulates imported sounds as part of the sample playback engine or processes live input audio. You can tweak the granular process with classic controls like grain size, density, tune, and more.
Sound Shaping
Then, you can work with a multimode filter per layer and on the master. On the modulation side, you get two envelope generators with curve control per layer and one multi-wave LFO per layer with delay (4 in total).
To refine your sounds, you can route global delay and reverb effects to each layer via the layer send functionality. Alongside this, it hosts an arpeggiator with five different modes and ships with a factory bank with over 150 high-quality presets.
According to the Imaginando website, you get lifetime free updates on FRMS, which also applies to the ADSR Sounds gift. Don’t forget that FRMS is also available on iOS and Android as a separate purchase. Owners of this version can export their patches to the mobile version and vice versa.
