December is the time of giving. Not only from the family, but also many developers give away free plugins, samples, and more. There have already been some free downloads for this year’s festivities.
Rhodes has now joined the club and has a free plugin for you. Today, they released the V-Pan plugin, which can be downloaded for free until the end of January 2024.
Rhodes V-Pan
V-Pan is a new effects processor that simulates the iconic vibrato stereo panning effects initially introduced on suitcase pianos in the 1970s. According to Rhodes, it authentically emulates this section, which is also found on the Rhodes MK8 flagship piano.
The plugin is very simple. There are five controls in total. First, you can adjust the variable rate, ranging from super slow to audio rates, allowing for versatile synth and ring mod-like effects.
Then, it hosts a depth control with which you can set the intensity from subtle to heavily modulated effects. There is also a waveform slew and smooth controls, enabling further customization of the panning waveshape. Great for more soft results.
It also hosts a precision left/right panning LED indication that gives you real-time feedback on the effect. Further, you get a volume control to adjust the amount of effects routed in the signal precisely. Of course, it supports BPM sync for synchronized and rhythmic effects.
V-Pan fits every signal. On synths, you can add depth to them or create unique textures in combination with guitars. It also works great on vocals to give them a unique timbre.
First Impression
An excellent plugin with which you can bring the charm of Rhodes Pianos into your DAW. And interesting, you can now apply this iconic effect to other instruments.
Rhodes V-Pan is available now as a free download (reg. $39,95/34,95€) until the end of January 2024. It runs as a VST, VST3, AU, and AAX plugin on macOS (native Apple Silicon + Intel) and Windows.
