Joke or not, Caelum Audio Dustbin is a free effect plugin for macOS, Windows, and iOS that gives you reverbs/amps from a dustbin with a speaker in it.
A good joke makes the day brighter. That’s what the young developer company Caelum Audio thought too. Yesterday was International Joke Day 2022. If the developers hadn’t told me about it, I wouldn’t have noticed. Maybe it’s because I’m a bad joke teller.
Caelum Audio celebrated this day with a new free plugin release for macOS, Windows, and iOS. The plugin is special and you have to decide for yourself if it’s just a joke or a creative fx.
Caelum Audio Dustbin
Dustbin is a creative convolution-based effects plugin based on IR from a trashcan. Yes, that can only be a joke. But when you use it, you realize that it can do more than you can possibly do. For the project, the developers miked a trash can, added an amp, speakers, and recorded the sounds from it.
Then Caelum Audio built an effect from these impulse responses with possibilities to adapt the sound. You can adjust the cavity, the size, the mic type, and position. Plus, you get control over the gain and apply an EQ with low, mid, and high controls.
With the plugin, you can give your tracks the sound of a dustbin with a speaker in it. Or in the words of Caelum Audio: you get the reverb/amplifier you never knew you needed… and you still don’t need.
As absurd and crazy as the idea sounds, the plugin makes very interesting Lo-Fi-like effects on sounds. It’s a nice example of a developer’s creativity. Don’t always do the same thing that 100 others have already done, but experiment and do wild stuff. Even if it was just a joke afterward, this is somehow a very good one that is on top of an interesting creative effect plugin.
Caelum Audio Dustbin is available now as a free download (reg. $0,99 USD) until July 15th, 2022. It runs as a 64-bit VST3, AU, and AAX plugin on macOS and Windows. It’s also out now on the Apple AppStore as a standalone effect and AUv3 plugin on iOS.
